Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

I don't heat or light my main coop but I feel the chicks should be able to get out from under mom and not be too cold. I don't usually have a broody with chicks this early in the year, but I have a White Java pullet that insisted she needed to hatch some eggs......so who was I to deny her that privilage? I did try breaking her but when my DH said, "Just give her some eggs" (this is the man who thinks my "chickening" is a bit on the looney side), I gave her 6 eggs. She now has 5 beautiful Icelandics and they have a heat lamp that is 5 feet off the floor. I keep a check on the temp in there to know if I need to unplug it. I also have a remote sensor in my main coop with digital read-out that is on the top of my refrigerator that I look at to see how cold it is out there.

(It's going to be a VERY LONG 8 weeks as my receptionist is off for maternity leave)

I hope she has her little girl soon.

Her last name starts with an "L" so I told her she should name her daughter "Levica"

I can't understand why she didn't like my suggestion. I think Levica is pretty.

I once knew a gal named Levica. Levica Trickleson. smart woman.

I'll probably name one of my Easter Hatch chicks Levica. (Pronounced Lah, vick, ah.)

See, I'm unfortunately really hard on phones and I don't own a real camera, so any pic I took would look like vaseline had been rubbed ll over the lens. My camera lens on my phone is ALLLLLLLL scratched up. Too bad they didn't make the cover for that out of Gorilla Glass like they did the touch screen. Really not too far a stretch to do that, is it?

well i am so ready for this hatch to begin we just hatched out 4 baby silkies but this morning one was a little weak hope it has perked up by the time i get home it had a hard time hatching due to it piping at the small end we are finally getting our coop fixed where a tree fell on it during a storm a month ago and hubby is building me a new brooder can not ask for a better time than now.

Guess next time Kathy pays you a visit she will have to bring her camera and get us some pics of those projects you're building!!

Probably for the same reason I didn't name my first born Knute Nanook as my father suggested I should. He thought it was appropriate for either gender, I disagreed.

Wow, the US has sure had some interesting weather this week! We got lucky - just a few flurries and 40 mile/hr winds. Blew out two panes of glass in our green house

The flock is happy today though, the wind is calm and its hovering at 33 degrees. As soon as I opened the door they spread out across the pasture!
