Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Whew! Caught up again.

Was it dsqard, with the honking Brahma? Mine honks all the time! I only have one, so I don't know if it is normal.

Reading that we set eggs in 12 days caused a flash of panic. Is bleach water good enough for cleaning the Brinsea? I guess there is not all that much to do: clean the incubator, start collecting eggs later this week, and hope my shipped eggs show up next week. Let me know if I am forgetting something. This is only my 3rd time hatching.

Congratulations to Arielle!

How about a new bread recipe!!!

Sure, I do a lot of competitive baking. How about something Fair-worthy. I'm always looking for and trying new recipes.

DH and I collected a few bread making books over the years so give me some time to pull out the books and find a couple favorites tomorrow. I'm really tired tonight and headed to BED.

Woot!! I have 3 turkey eggs so far this week!! I wasn't expecting them to start laying yet but everything that is laid by Saturday is going in the bator!!!

So I'll have turkeys, icelandics, my mystery swap, and I'll round it out with some purebred mutts.. First official hatch of 2012. I gave some eggs to a friend who had a broody hen that hatched this past Friday so my fertility is good out of at least the one pen!!

Okay, Arielle, we see how it is, take the prize and run (off to bed.) That's alright, we will remember you......

You should check out Barry Harmon's Artisan bread site. Excellent recipes!! His Bagel recipe is the best I have tried and my favorite bread is his Artisanal 85% hydration bread. Perfect thick chewy crust with a beautiful crumb.

:weee I just love hatching turkeys. And the Icelandics raise them up so nicely ;)

I went to DS#1's class to retrieve the Hovabator and candle the 26 day eggs. The hatch was a complete fail. When I candled them I saw that some appeared to have been infertile or killed very early (nearly clear) and some were dark all the way through with no sounds and a small air sack. Two or three had three layers, the air sack, a clear area in the center and a third, dark area. What does that tell me about what happened?

I left the eggs with the teacher. I took them some ziplock bags, a large egg tray, and some rubber gloves. I warned her to take the eggs outside to do the egg-topsies. I am glad I am not going to be there tomorrow!

Cleaning out the bator tomorrow, cranking it up Thursday to calibrate the temp, and starting egg collection this coming Sunday....... I'm getting excited!
