Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

It is looking like I will have an overflowing incubator. I have 12+ EE's coming, my own LO mixes going in and I have 12 frizzle/?? coming from the lady I currently buy our eggs from for the school

I may have to use the incubator I planned on using as a hatcher on top of my new Octagon Eco 20.

My digital thermometer will not do tenths, should I set it for 99 or 100?

If you have a fan, I'd set it at 99. They may hatch a little late, but they should be healthy. If you don't have a fan, set it at 100.

Yay Mom, glad you joined us - Farmerboy and Hillbilly Hen are also in

Ron, would you consider posting the entire sheet if you have access to it? I would love to see it.
I will see if I can get it.

Ron

I want to thank everyone for their well wishes.

I am no where near caught up. I have 40 more pages to go.

here is a tip that I will be using for this hatch, It's called a pedigree basket. To make it you need : 1/4 to 1/2 inch hardware cloth, bent to form a box 4 inches to 6 inches square and about 2 inches high. Cut a cover to fit and hinge one edge with wire. now for me, I am going to make the box bigger and HIGHER so that as the chicks hatch, they will have the head space to move any where they please. you do not need to put the box in until lockdown so you will have time to make them. Oh, and I will be using zip ties to keep the box from opening as they hatch. On how to mark the chicks, I use zip ties on the legs, wing bands and color markers on the chicks. I will be making the boxes soon so if anyone would like to see pics of the boxes, let me know on here and I will post pics for all of you to see!!!!!

NOT SURE IF I MADE THE POST COME UP, SO I AM POSTING THIS FOR YOU!!!

Thanks! I would love to see pics. "duck math" got me.. I think I'm looking at 12 eggs now instead of my intended 6. And if the friend I'm getting eggs from wants chicks (which she alluded to) I juuuust might add some chicken eggs a week in. Seriously, as much talk of "chicken math" I see on here, my coop is at capacity! No more chickens for me without either a coop expansion or a new one. So I get ducks.. hehehe!

I had some eggs in the incubator and was hoping one of my hens would go broody....an Icelandic pullet, only 8 months old, was the only volunteer this week...she has been on the nest all week with just one/two quick potty breaks...so tonight when I went out to the garage to check the lockdown humidity, one of the Icelandic eggs had a pip....wasting no time.....I ran in the house....got a hot damp towel.....grabbed the five Icelandic eggs and one Blue Isbar egg from the 'bator and ran out to the barn. I traded the golf ball under the pullet for the six eggs. We'll see how she does with them.........
