Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Sorry for your loss. Your kitty was beautiful. I lost my best friend 17 months ago. She had cancer in her intestines. She had artheritis in her hips and we thought it was just getting worse. She was on pain meds for the artheritis. Then she started having issues with not being able to keep food down and I noticed she wasn't going potty and she was in real pain. I rushed her to the vet and he did all kinds of tests and I spent the weekend crying my eyes out because I knew what was going to have to happen but I didn't want to have to do it. Turned out thats exactly what I had to do. I cry just thinking about it. I'm not a cry baby either. Doc said he is 90% sure it's cancer but she wouldn't make it through surgery just to find out for sure and if it was she would have to be put down anyway. So I said no surgery, she's already suffering and I had to end it. She was the best dog. I could feel how much she loved me and she smiled when she greeted somebody she knew. I still miss her badly. I haven't been able to get attached to another dog since. She is also my walpaper on both computers and she's my avatar. I still have her collar hanging on my desk and her pictures are still up and always will be.
I know your heart is breaking and I truely know how you feel. I am so very sorry for your loss.
Thank you for sharing your story emvickrey. And thank you everyone for your kind words. I am glad I can finally grieve. Her health had been in decline for a few years, and she kept almost dying and then springing back. It really does seem like they have 9 lives. I am so excited about your emu hatch, Kathy! DH thinks we should have emus after seeing the photos, but I know it would involve a lot more work than we are up for at the moment. I think he has an ulterior motive, as it would give him an excuse to buy a post-hole digger attachement for his tractor. ;). Okay, lots to do today and it will be good to keep busy. I liked seeing someone else (featherz?) making their to-do list on here. I have lists on little scraps of paper all over the place. Now where did I put that list for today.....

I'll help if I can come visit them.

For the past few years that I've had my house, I've had a woodchuck ("Woody") that has munched on my garden and destroyed many of my crops. Woody was a bear to trap - he was suspicious of traps, and wouldn't go in them, regardless of the bait that I used. As an extra bonus, traps that I'd put out for Woody ended up with all sorts of wonderful things in them, notably skunks, housecats and a bobcat. So then I tried shooting Woody. Woody was quick, and smart. Woody would see me IN THE HOUSE grabbing the gun and bolt. Woody could hear me sneak around the house outside, and go running. Woody would hear doors open and go running. I must have shot at Woody 40 times, and never caught him. Boyfriend shot at him probably 10 times, too. Finally, last fall, the boyfriend got Woody with two bullets. When I went out to collect his carcass a few minutes later, Woody was gone. I smelled him, though, a few days later, and was pretty sure he was dead.

I was happy, and relieved. Sorry that it had to go that way, but there's plenty to eat around here that isn't crops for humans. We could have coexisted beautifully together.

A few minutes ago I was sitting on the front stoop of the chicken coop, FatOne in my lap, petting her, and watching the NYD chicks to make sure everything was ok.

The rooster sounded an alarm, everyone went running under the coop. A large bald eagle was flying over head. Good boy!

The chickens all come out a few minutes later, then the roo makes another strange noise, and all the girls turn to the driveway.

What do I see crossing the driveway?

Woody musta had kids.
