Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

My emu kids had a visitor today...... a brooder jumper.....

She looked at them..............

And then, looked at herself.................

And then, screamed bloody murder, "GET ME OUTTA HERE !"

Kathy, you are so funny!!! :lau I agree with tazcat, THAT is NOT you in that picture, cuz I have met you in person, and you are much prettier and nicer than that old prune. :old Well, two different shipment of eggs are on their way here!!! I have not heard from an other breeder yet. I will setting 2 emu eggs for the hatch-a-long, as I won the auction last night!!! :th They will not hatch until 29 days after Easter. :th

What are those gorgeous project birds you are working on? The white ones with the barred tails? I LOVE them!!!!!!!

Project Delaware! The Delaware breed was created from a Barred Rock - New Hampshire mix. I'm workin' on it..... to make my own strain. Hopefully.....

I should totally buy another bator just for this hatch. I wonder if I can talk DH into that one. My DD #1 commented, "mommy you need more eggs" My remark, "but I am running out of room in the bators" Her reply, "eggs are not your problem mommy, you just need more bators" Got to love my kids. My DD #2 however did offer to sit on some for me.

Raising them right, still young and already chicken obsessed.

Emu chicks are so adorable! Kathy you are going to let us know when you are willing to let go of some eggs to people who just want eye candy in their yards right?

if someone wants to surprise me with an emu egg, feel free.. Of course, I'd have to figure out how to make my bators big enough to hatch it. :p :p

(And what would I do with an emu?!?!?!?)

OMG!!! Thats the answer!!! My husband won't let me get an emu, so someone "SURPRISE" me with the eggs! (You don't think he would have any suspicions do you?)

Just say it's a very rare breed of chicken that lays eggs that take up most of thier body.... like kiwi. (if that even how you spell it. I don't remember.)

I would *so* love to have a pair of emu... My back yard has 4 foot tall horse fence which could easily be extended a few feet. Can't you just imagine the squall from the gas meter reader as he slowly turns to look at a bird as tall as he is, that sounds like a conga band and looks like something from "Land of the Lost!
