Nope. Not an announcement. Just sayin', there are poultry auctions. One just happens to be a new one. BYC rules prohibit discussion about things that may lure you to other forums.

My husband nicked the bag with his knife when opening the box, and a little brownstuff leaked out on my hand. I licked it and I thought he was going to faint.

...It was chocolate, by the way. I stuck the whole thing in the freezer, and plan on noshing on it later. NUM!!

here is what i do........ i leave the hen in the coop nest box and I mark the eggs that I want her to hatch. and I take the eggs out that are not to hatch out every day. then two days before they hatch, I put a pecse of fencing over the opening to keep the chicks in the box, the hen will stay in the box one to two days before the hatch to keep them warm.

That sounds good, too, Java girl. I was thinking of doing something like that, especially if the girls seem to be mostly leaving her alone as she begins to set.

What's her name, ChestnutRidge? I have been following this saga and am now invested.

Well, she's a Phoenix, so we've ended up calling her Phoenie (Fee-nee). She is the tiniest chicken we have, and she is one of my favorites - perhaps my absolute favorite, if I was honest. Our Silver Ameraucana cockerel ripped her little comb trying to mount her over the winter, so she ended up spending a few days living in the bathroom in a dog crate being babied. She was skittish before, but has been friendly every since. She's adventurous and always being left behind because she doesn't notice when the flock moves on.

Here she is, pre-broody.


My Basque eggs were mailed on Friday from Tennessee and were supposed to arrive yesterday. They did not. Nor did they arrive today. It seems that they were, for some reason, sent from Tennessee to Virginia by way of Pennsylvania.

I hope they get here tomorrow. They'll already be at least six days old, and I'll have to rest them for a day.

It looks like Gabbard will be sending Blue Birchen Marans or Barnevelders in place of the Wheaton Marans. I'm pleased with that, and I'll be getting the RC Brown Leghorns I ordered as well. That was mailed out today. Lastly, my swap partner sent out my eggs on Monday, so the packages should be rolling in soon! I'm still very excited.
