Good morning folks!

I think this hatch is done...strangest hatch ever. Usually if the chicks aren't out by day 22, they aint comin---but I have chicks popping (unhealthily) on day 25+. I even had one unzip on day 21, then croak without popping the shell off.

Methinks I am going to have to check my bators.

I would REALLY love to send pictures of these chicks...but my camera is still missing. Has anyone found it yet?

Have you checked under your nearest broody? You never know!

How does a double post happen with a post in between?

Two or more are working on the post at the same time. The double poster was editing the second post when the in between post made it to the forum. It's the same reason why the forum count is off sometimes; ie you are on the last post in the forum but it says you are on xxx2 of xxx3 and yet there is no xxx3 yet.

Does this make sense?

Cayuse, what kind of thermometers have you got? I'm wondering if they are sealed. I'm also wondering if you have compared them with your house's thermostat to see if they are accurate? I'm thinking maybe your temps are a bit off, and it's just enough to have an issue.

Also, if there isn't enough turning done early on, it can't sustain itself well later on. I had a turner quit on me once and it took forever for me to notice it.

Parent stock problems or temperature not correct in incubator. I am going to pm you with more details since I am afraid people don't really read these posts too carefully. Just too darn many of them LOL.

I hope you all have good thermometers for this hatch. These from Walmart have caused many bad hatches and lots of heartaches....





I recommend a thermometer especially made for incubators. It is accurate to within one tenth of a degree. Brinsea Spot Check. They cost around $19.



I just can't see having several thermometers in the bator, (it will drive you crazy trying to figure out which one is right), when it really only takes one reliable one.

Thermometers sealed? Whats that lol. I have three different types of thermometers. An acurite (which has been the one with the most fluctuations) the one that came with the incubator (which was pretty consistent except during lockdown) and one that I don't know what the name is but is round looks like a clock. It is always the highest. Also, I have an IR Thermometer which I use to "check" temp. It is usually at the 99 degree in the middle of those 3. I could take them all out of the bator now and see what I get room temp. But I was also just thinking of going to walmart and getting the cheapies you have on your cheat sheet.

About your comment on not turning....Based on that, what are your thoughts on not turning shipped eggs? And what if some of your eggs are not shipped?

I bought fish tank thermometers per Renee's cheat sheet. Fairly inexpensive. Just be sure to look at the highest level the thermometer reads. I have some old thermometers ai took from my fish tank and the 100-103 temps are not legible; so I always check to be sure I can easily read that high on a particular thermometer. I also found human thermometers over in the human medical section of Walmart and found a thermometer that reads the high temps: registers the high temps and hold the reading until you shake it down. I love it as it tells me about spikes that I miss with my other thermometers.

I only tried hatching after reading the cheat sheet and emailing Renee a zillion times! Thank you Renee!! Yes it is nerve wracking!!!
