Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Welcome folks!!

Just read page one and see what lovely things there are to do...we're a mad bunch of over-populationists here and it's getting very exciting near the set time, indeed!!

Countrygirl911, I do hand turn mine when I stack, and I also trade out the ones that are on top with some that are in the turner every few days...it's a bit warmer up there in an LG or a Hovabator, so that keeps those from cooking fast the whole time.

I think if you stack too many, the turner motor can't keep up. So, if it looks like you'll be going way overboard, and you may be with those numbers, it may be better to remove the turner. Get your temps stable with your thermometer at about yolk-hight off of the wire rack on your incubator floor, and then set them on their sides when it's time. Another option that will allow you to hand turn them easily is if you put them in cartons. You can lift one side of the whole incubator on books, then the other. Make sure you cut the bottoms off of the egg cups so they get good circulation if you do this.

The last time I remember seeing it, Pastrymama and I drove out to BFE to a breeder's house. Pastrymama came home with 11 basque chicks, and I got 6 Spash ameracuana eggs. Pastrymama is SUPPOSED to be tearing though her gynourmous car...but she gets distracted easily.
Did I tell you she threw me down a climbing wall this weekend? She's half my weight and she thought it would be a good idea to pull me down on top of her so she could win a race. I almost sqoooshed her! Sneaky, she is.

Perhaps she's waiting for you to follow Kathy's instructions so she can make off with the one in her badonk-car. I haven't a proper camera, so I have to take cruddy pics with my scratched up phone cam. I'd hide yours from you , too!

Oh well, the DH has told me over and over and over and over I can't have ducks. Ooops.

Yup. mMne keeps telling me no more chickens! And then he takes a break to throw them corn and enjoy the sight . . . . Mixed messages me thinks!

My wife misplaced her car keys, in the house, about one month ago and hasn't been able to find them. Went to the dealership to get a replacement. The new key is $70 and the replacement fob (push the button to unlock/lock the door thingy) is over $100. Consequently, we didn't order the fob! The guy did tell us that if she finds the key before the new one comes in that he'll just keep it in stock. No, she still hasn't found'em.

She won't find it until you pick up the new key from the dealership!

Ok, here are the pics! My 2 BA/RIRs, 1 RIR (so far), and my photobombing white game roo 'Ezio'.

Dsqard!!

You're going to kill me...I dropped one of your eggs when packing, and it smacked onto another, breaking both. You'll be getting 10 Konzas and 4 Silkied Ameraucanas to make up for it...hope you don't mind!?

Just thought you would like to know how much I appreciate your donation to the Back Yard Chickens website. I am participating in the Easter hatch, and thanks to recommendations from other BYCers just ordered a spot check thermometer from your website. Thanks again - Mary

And got this very nice note in return

Dear Mary,

Thank you for taking the time to write this kind note to us.
It is our pleasure to make a contribution to the Backyard Chickens community and encourage more chicken lovers to discover the joy of hatching their own chicks. Hope you have a good hatch and that you’ll like your spot check.

Don’t hesitate if we can help in any way.

Best regards,

" I received a box yesterday and a box today. I'm scared to let them sit that long before I set them. "

I got 3 boxes of eggs today and I'm going to set them Saturday. I think it's better if they have more time to sit and unscramble anyway.
