Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

~~1muttsfan is a suck up! 1muttsfan is a suck up!~~

Okay, I'll stop chanting now. And I'm just being silly, anyway - not intending any offense.

With all the incubators - 3 Mini and 3 9ctagon 20 Advance EX units, to boot - I have purchased from Brinsea, one would think a freebie might have been tossed my way at least once. Oh, wait, I did get a free cover for the humidity well for a MiniAdvance....

It was Pasqual who corresponded with me about an issue, for a short time.

I just love Brinsea.

And 1muttsfan, you're not a suck up. I was just letting my inner child out for a moment. It's been a real adult and tense day at work today. I really think your e-mail to Brinsea was great!

I'm setting here looking at all the pretty eggs I just got.

The Black Tail Buff Japs I ordered weren't laying enough for a full dozen, so I asked for a few of whatever Silkies he had. Well my BTBJs are here along with Silkies in black, white and paint!!!

Please please let these hatch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, I feel like I just relived the last day of my life! 235 posts in a bit over 24 hours. Crazy! Such fun though, wouldn't miss it!

You are all such funny folks!

Just an update...

Somehow the bator got unplugged. It wasn't that way for very long so I'm hoping it doesn't hurt the last 4 eggs. I hope it gets that lazy little RIR that's just been hanging out all day to hurry up and hatch!

Me, toooooooo! I need turkey eggs. Anyone in the center of the country have some? Actually, the farther they have to go, the better my shipped eggs are, as they are on a quick flight rather than a long truck ride. It took eggs I shipped to Tazcat70 3+ days to arrive, and she's 3.5 HOURS away...and they all flopped but one. I ship eggs to Alaska and they're there in 14 hours, 90% hatch. Go figure.

Plane rides are more gentle.

I have turkey eggs, or I will have as soon as I quit slipping them in the bator

I wonder if the plane ride FROM Alaska is a gentle as the one TO Alaska?

I'm caught up. I did so many swaps and ordered so many eggs I am going to have to take my turner out. I'm going to try suing cartons and just turn the whole bator as someone on here suggested earlier. I will still have the quail eggs to hand turn and the goose eggs. This hatchalong enabled me to go NUTS with the eggs. If only 1/2 of them hatch I don't know where I will put them.

UGH! I had a bunch of multi-quotes marked and somehow I just lost them all! Now I know I'll forget a bunch but I'm not going over a hundred and something posts again to find them. So here's my best shot...

Razadia CONGRATS!!! Cute pics.

Gryeyes/Linda I know exactly how you feel! I'm from Cali too and unfortunately so are most of the folks here in Reno! 80% of the folks we meet here are from Cali too and they have brought their terrible driving habits with them!!! Don't they know that's one of the main things we were trying to get away from? lol I like a nice bit of space around me when I drive. Especially in snow and ice!

To all the sweet folks that have been posting about your lovely 70-80 degree weather...

JK. I'm just jealous! I'll have to live vicariously through you all.
It's not snowing here so far but the pass I have to cross to get eggs is a mess! Beside if it's going to be this cold I'd rather it go ahead and snow. The snow is easier to drive in than ice.

YAY!!! I'm all caught up! And before DH gets home. He's been complaining that BYC is "stealing" me away from him. I blame all you Easter hatch folks. heeheehee

Hey Mahonri - just had to pop in and thank you for all of the egg orders you generated for me. I stayed up till 1:30 a.m. Sunday night wrapping eggs to ship on Monday just so everyone that ordered from me could have them in plenty of time for setting on the 17th. Sure didn't want them to get hung up at the P.O. somewhere and not arrive in time. I had several hundred dollars worth of egg orders for all different breeds from people who all wanted them for your Easter Hatch Along - so thank you, thank you. And to all who ordered from me - blessings on a great Easter Hatch. Your eggs were all freshly gathered before shipping and you can easily let them set to incubate on the 17th. When I'm setting my own eggs I often let them accumulate for 3 weeks and they still hatch. I keep them stored large end up in a cool environment. I know a read a couple of posts by people worried they got their eggs a day or two too soon so thought I'd pop in with my personal experience that eggs can sit for a loooonnnggg time and still hatch. Just ask the broodies that show up around here with 20 babies in tow from eggs they've been laying for over 3 weeks in a hidden nest somewhere. I've even read where people have taken commercially cleaned, frigerated, store-bought eggs and incubated them and had them hatch. So my words of encouragement to everyone in this hatch-a-long is to wait and set them and join the fun. I think I'll stick a few dozen in the bator myself.

Thanks again Mahonri - you generated a lot of business for me.

Ha! I'm actually going to be a bit neurotic on this one, because my FarmGirl incubator is not quite stable with the temps outside having skyrocketed this week. It'll be in the 80s all week, when less than 2 weeks ago it was in the single digits. LOVE Kansas weather. I'm just a keyboard away!!

AAAAgh!! My eyes are bleeding after this!! All caps hurts me.

I have been wondering about this myself. The eggs I incubate from out of state often arrive in better shape that the ones from within the state. I may start ordering eggs from California and Alaska regularly! I shipped a friend in Massachusetts 19 eggs a few weeks ago. 17 made it to lockdown and 16 hatched! He was VERY happy, needless to say.

Temps here are wacking out my smaller incubator too, though the larger one has stayed steady. I suppose because the bigger one is in the center of the house while the smaller one is in the bedroom where the temp tends to fluctuate more. I got up 4 or 5 times last night to check it. It was 80 outside today and I TURNED THE A/C ON FOR THE INCUBATOR! I am a person that generally wears a sweater/jacket year round in the house and tries to avoid turning the a/c on before June if I can get away with it. My husband is always trying to get me to turn on the a/c in the Spring as he is very hot natured. Today when he noticed the a/c was running he just shook his head, kept his mouth shut (he's such a smart man), and headed over to the shop.
