Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Lawd, I'm itching to throw some eggs in. The weather up north here is fair and on the verge of fantastic. Yeah, spring fever is in the air. Trout ice fishing ends today and I don't think many places with ice will be much fun fishing after this. Are lows for next week are like 40 F. Far too soon for this spring sun and will definitely pay for it in early April. It means a terrible year for Syrup unless those that are ready for mid winter thaw took advantage, was over a month of perfect conditions...yeah, they took advantage. Thank goodness as I don't mind paying more for gas as there's no alternative quite as yet but the alternative to pure syrup is certainly not an option! Colored corn syrup may be OK for my kids (who don't appreciate true goodness) but will never settle quite right by me.

Well Kim, sounds like you have to make that hard decision if they are truely stuck. I am not going to advise you either way only because I think it is a personal decision. I know you know how to do whatever you decide to do. Keeping

Thanks for trying. I really appreciate it.

I'm going to post in the hatching section and see if someone has any idea if I should add more water or maybe remove the moisture pad. I don't know if they are stick from too much moisture or drying out. Maybe someone there can see it well enough to let me know. Hate to even bother though since the past few months I can post a thread and get zero answers. Wish me luck! I'll go in and get them out if I have to, but kind of want to see if there another alternative.

ALL of my eggs came today!!! I'm in eggie heaven......

13 Black Copper Marans from ruth. Oh my
bow.gif
they are soooo incredibly dark.
14 B/B/S Orpingtons also from ruth. These are some big, heavy duty eggs.

25 EO's from Skyline. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I have as good a hatch rate as others with his eggs.

12 Auracana. Real ones !!! My order was for 18 but the hens didn't cooperate. He refunded my money immediately. I know these are extra delicate for fertility rate and shipping but I can dream can't I ???

Setting up the incubator tonight. This time I'm not turning on the turner for a week. Hopefully this will improve my hatch rate.

And do you need a coop for turkeys? Can I just let them free range without a coop or pen?

Well I had some free rangers they now seem to stay in their pen except my hussy palm she likes to visit with several boys another palm is just to boring for her tastes....Turkeys like to roost way up high and have very large droppings need I say more. When I first started the helpful folks on the turkey thread told me when they got big they couldn't fly I'm wondering when that is mine are going on 2years old and still fly quite well and they are big bullies my palm girl is always trying to fight my big New Hampshire boss and I had a tom try to boss my horse around but he didn't win only lost a few feathers and a lot of pride...I prefer that mine have a place to go not that they always go there. I use horse stalls and that is what causes problems as the turkeys think the horse has a better house and my horses have no idea of sharing feed with a turkey as they think I need to feed them more....turkeys keep my weeds cut short like a weed eater don't let them know where the garden is they don't like to share....and they like to visit with my neighbors always trying to have a brewsky or 2 I guess or maybe chips or dog biscuits. Turkeys are very much fun to have they just are not trainable if they like to go somewhere they go.....get some you'll love them

Wow, that's pretty good - from Iowa to Oregon in two days. See the PO doesn't always suck!
I got my Welsummers delivered to work from LuckyPickens, and hopefully I'll have another box or two when I get home.
