Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

OK best I can get. Can someone please tell me what's wrong? I have 49 eggs in there and these 2 are the only ones trying to zip and getting stuck. I want to see if I can get the others out with less problem.

Wolfie, I see this on my eggs on occasion. The outer membrane might be getting a little dry but I wouldn't panic yet. I would give it time and watch how the chick is doing. With other chicks zipping, your humidity is probably high enough. As long as the chick keeps progressing, leave it alone. It will probably be fine. If it starts struggling or not progressing, you might consider pulling it out and wetting down the membrane with a q-tip and then putting it back in the bator. Remember though, you could be risking other chicks by opening the bator. SCG will steam up the bathroom really good before opening the bator and that seems to help from endangering the other pipped/zipped eggs. Hope this helps.
ETA - do you know what your humidity is in the bator?

Thank you! I will wait to fill out my form and guesses then. Can't wait to get started. I am cleaning my bedroom up tonight, getting the bator spot on the dresser all nice & ready. Then I am going to get my incubator out, give it a good cleaning/airing out and hope and pray my eggs arrive in the mail tomorrow morning. :D

I have already called my post office they said that they are open on Saturday too but the tracking says I will get them by March 16th. Happy Hatching everyone!

See this is something i end up doing a lot. They get to this point or just pip and I get shrink wraped chicks. I go from one extreme to the other it seems. Trust me I know this chick will be completely stuck. Just realized my thermometers are ready 104!!! I have no idea how long that's been going on. I when to bed at 3am and they were fine.

I can add or remove moisture in there, so I need to know which to do, because my own judgement seems to lose chicks for me.

OMG! I can't believe it's 104 in there!

Breathe, Kim, breathe. I think if you get your temps down that will keep the other ones from getting sticky. What is the humidity at in the bator? Is it just the two eggs and how long have they been stuck?

Your are too funny

Someone on the Basque Hen Thread suggest watching a special on the Basque Country in Spain and France. It turned out to be a travel show and not only were there no chickens, you could not hear a chicken and none of the food shown was a chicken dish. I posted a Basque Chicken recipe that I have been making for several years to the thread.

Warning, after reading about them you will want them

Yup. Its official...I want them. I want them bad. And I already have too many that I want and don't yet have...but will hopefully after this hatch! ;) But just in case, I might have find out where to order these. I always sucked at math...failed alg. 2 once in high school and twice in college, passed the 3rd time because of study group, tutor, one on one tutoring with my teacher and a really understanding teacher that would let me take smoke breaks when had nervous breakdowns...so my chicken math is reallllly bad.

Go to the first post on the Basque Hen thread. Click on the link to skyline Poultry. James has 80 hens now and he says they lay better than his Leghorns, so He is having no trouble filling orders. At least 3 of us are hatching his eggs for this hatchalong.

I received 25 EO eggs from James this morning. He is very responsive to customers.
