Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Renee, just checked again on the tracking site and mine are still showing at the sort facility in KS. Of course that was on the 15th so I am sure they are not in Kansas any more

. Wish FedEx would ship eggs (and I guess in a way they do LOL) USPS doesn't claim that their "tracking numbers" are truely tracking numbers. I have had boxes not update from the time they are accepted where they are being shipped from until they are actually picked up by me. I HATE their tracking system. At least FedEx will update each time the box is scanned. USPS I think only updates once a day at best. Oh well, I think they will be here tomorrow. I just hope they get to the post office here in town before they close for the day. I think it's like 1 PM on Saturdays or some foolish thing. If I am very lucky, they will get here today. I am going to run down to the PO here shortly. I have finished my homework, (algebra

and geology) my laundry and I am saying screw the housework for now. I want to go outside and play. LOL

He broke my LG by removing the snap thingies on the heating element, and I just bolted it back on. And I think its been like that all along because I noticed that when I did hatch usually only eggs in middle and front hatched, never the ones in the back. So I tested it with a ton of thermometers. I have a computer fan hooked to a 5 v. I thought that might be too low, but I was under the impression since it was a still air, the heat would be even over the surface and not even across the top.

As for my homemade, he broke the plexi glass out which I had sealed and glued but I screwed it in this time. He also tore the flexwatt heat tape out, but that was ok because it barely kept the temp up. I bought 2 more and put them in and it should be even hotter now. He also tore some of the spongy tape stuff that seals the edges, but I replaced it. (i've been sick with chronic lyme and my new meds make me really sick so I didn't keep a good eye on him one day) But now its just not keeping the heat in!!

A computer fan uses 12v so if you could use something closer to that it would probebly help. as well as ensuring the fan has sufficiend space between it and the shell of the bator for better circulation 1/2" space should be good. as far as the homemade one a fast fix could be duct tape, tape all the joints to keep the air in, a better fix would br to line it with the silver insulating wrap that you can find at most any hardware store for wrapping hot water heaters. looks like bubble wrap with an aluminum foil covering it. you can cut it to shape with siccors. Just a couple suggestions of what may help.

RENEE!

I HAVE THE EGGS!! Called the PO, the gal says hang on, I'll look for them and 10 minutes later I have them here in the house "settling" with the rest of them to go in tomorrow!

Now I need to know what the 18 are!
I have 4 Ameraucanas.. these are SILKIED!! you rock.
2 Olive Eggers
3 that say GL
3 that say 1/1
3 that say Co something or other
and 3 that say FBCM/DL
So what are they!!!

Thank you so VERY MUCH for donating these eggs for my Easter Hatch, you are so very kind!
All of my eggs were so well packed, no cracks for any of them. It should be interesting to see how the PO affected the eggs from all of the different areas of the country. MD, IL, KS & CA.

Still waiting to see if ca comes through with the eggs from Wickenburg.

Spent time on the phone with a nice gentleman from GQF this morning to help me get the temp up in my 1588. It's right on 100... probably too hot but I'm not going to mess with it.

I was able to get my turner working. I suppose I should just order / buy another one so I have a backup!
Well at present my TOTAL EGGS in the bator will be 28 + 37 = 65
I so wish the eggs from my coop were fertile. I'd be stacking. As it is, I've got 5 empty slots.
pain pills are kicking in. time for a nap!

Ok, I need to post just to get to 400 posts for my account. Maybe I will be lucky and get one of those random winning posts from the contest page.

Thank you to this thread for removing eggs from the hatching Universe for this hatch! So many eggs were purchased last week that Breeders across the country rushed to auctions to sell their hatching eggs and now most here have stopped buying them.

Because of this, I was able to win an auction yesterday for $40.00 that that went for $90.00 last week.

I will be getting some Cream Legbar eggs next week.

Glad you finally scored some great eggs!!!

Sorry the incubators are malfunctioning ! Perhaps a bigger power source on the fan. THoigh 5V is th most common now for size; did look at Radio SHak last year and the cost for a much larger power source was tooooooooo much.

Perhaps relook at the lip and the foam seal on the homemade incubator. That is usually were mine has a problem too. GL

Whew! I am not even going to try and tell you all that I just read through all of that!

But I am going to ask if I can please join you! I am hoping to set my very first bunch of eggs along with you folks and would love to be part of a group effort!

I have 6 cochin eggs, and as soon as my husband comes home from picking up the others, I will let you know what else. But I think we should have a total of 12-14ish. No idea what the ones coming in a few will be though!

Well, the good news for me is my eggs arrived yesterday... the bad news is EVERY one of them has detached air sacs and two actually have bubbles in them. So I am resting them in my back kitchen until tonight when I'll candle them and I am going to try them all as I know I can't get these colours round here. I am really (expletive) upset about the state of the eggs. It's not the breeder's fault, but I know enough to get them all to at least start and if I have unfertile eggs I'll be back on to the breeder. So, out of 24, I'd rather not set 24. I have about half a dozen of my own, but they haven't been kept for the incubator so probably aren't much good to hatch this time around. I've been eating my own eggs as I was follhardedly waiting on the special eggs. Oh well, if it's a total disaster I'll be setting my own eggs after the incubator is clear. I am NOT running more than one incubator this year, fact.

So, good luck everyone with their shipped eggs. I'll be foregoing the auto turner in place of egg cartons and a thin book propping up one edge of the incubator this time. Ugh.
