Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

My icelandics are MIA USPS style!!!

Funny way to describe a drastic situation.

Hoping someone will rescue them pronto!

Whew! I am not even going to try and tell you all that I just read through all of that!

5000+ posts so far. I get why you're not going to read that backlog. So a Big Welcome to Mahonri's 3rd Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long. (If only I could include a Trumpet Fanfare every time I typed that. That would cheer us up ... well ... it would amuse me ... if nothing else.)

Looks like my FBCM are slackers today.

My FBCMs were slackers for most of the winter. But they're so pretty that I forgave them. I just love their shape. (French Black Copper Marans for those reading along)

Well, I have decided to add a pic to the calendar contest... I guess this one could work for Spring or Easter, but this Tiny, my little serema mix, he is only about the size (laying down) of a Quarter.

Last night in near darkness, I managed to get two of my broodies set on some dummy eggs in preparation for this hatch-a-long.

After I got back in my house and showered, I realized that I forgot to dust the broody boxes with DE before I put the broodies in. So I'm going to have to try do that after a few days. It's not going to be quite so easy with the hens in there.

Anyway, they are staying broody so far and didn't seem to mind the move. No sudden outbursts or anything. I just hope their prolactin levels don't drop with all the cheeping they are hearing from the chicks that are living in the brooding area right below them. But the chicks are older so maybe their cheeping has matured enough that the hens know that the cheeping they're hearing isn't baby chicks. Time will tell how it goes, but I'm holding my breath. Wish I could remember what has happened in previous years.

I didn't get any eggs in the mail. But I am loving hearing what everyone got in the mail. The plans are to hatch only eggs from my chickens here. I have to do an egg assessment soon to figure out which I will be setting. I'm not sure what to do as one of my roosters isn't getting along with all of his hens or vice versa. The other fella is fine ... thankfully.)

(For those reading along, DE is food grade only diatomacous earth. Many think that mites find its presence obnoxious.)

I have been trying to figure out what holiday pics to shoot and then I thought What about this for either April Fools Day or Halloween

I love how you managed to get this shot without a speck of baby poop in it. If I tried this my chicks would have little turds scattered all over before I could get the camera focused!

It was QUICK picture taking. I had my camera on, me set in the spot I wanted to take the pics from, set the chicks in place, and quick snapped pics, fast one after the other.

Actually when I was done there was only one poop between both picture settings.... My babies must be professionals....well all except for the one that pooped....she might not have what it takes to be a star.

Well back from the PO and no eggs for me today Renee. I will make sure I get to the PO tomorrow during the only TWO hours they are open. Gotta love rural areas.
