Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

What's cool, though, is how you and your chicken work together to get the chicks hatched. I just think that our (people in general) relationship with chickens throughout the centuries is utterly remarkable. We like them and many of them like us and we have this sort of symbiotic relationship going on.

I have been building grow out pens and putting a polycarbonate roof on my run...
So glad to see you back! That's a pretty bunch of eggs you have there. The half-dried yolk on the box is never a good sign, but it looks like you still have a ton of eggs!

Renee, just checked again on the tracking site and mine are still showing at the sort facility in KS. Of course that was on the 15th so I am sure they are not in Kansas any more

. Wish FedEx would ship eggs (and I guess in a way they do LOL) USPS doesn't claim that their "tracking numbers" are truely tracking numbers. I have had boxes not update from the time they are accepted where they are being shipped from until they are actually picked up by me. I HATE their tracking system. At least FedEx will update each time the box is scanned. USPS I think only updates once a day at best. Oh well, I think they will be here tomorrow. I just hope they get to the post office here in town before they close for the day. I think it's like 1 PM on Saturdays or some foolish thing. If I am very lucky, they will get here today. I am going to run down to the PO here shortly. I have finished my homework, (algebra

and geology) my laundry and I am saying screw the housework for now. I want to go outside and play. LOL

Well, if they aren't at your PO yet, I hope you made sure they know to contact you whenever they arrive...still in Kansas, indeed. What guano.

RENEE!

I HAVE THE EGGS!! Called the PO, the gal says hang on, I'll look for them and 10 minutes later I have them here in the house "settling" with the rest of them to go in tomorrow!

Now I need to know what the 18 are!
I have 4 Ameraucanas.. these are SILKIED!! you rock. These will be Blue/Splash/Blue or Splash Birchen/Blue or Splash Wheaten/Red Pyle- may or may not be Fuzzy, but will carry fuzzy gene.
2 Olive Eggers These are sired by a Chocolate English Orp, and will be Brown if pullets, Black if cockerels.
3 that say GL Gold Laced Project Orps
3 that say 1/1 It's scrawled: I/P, Isabel/Porcelain Project Orp (could still be Lavender or Split Lav, due to ongoing improvements with an English fellow called Nigel)
3 that say Co something or other I felt it was high time you know the love and cuddliness of a bantam Cochin. Blue/Black/Splash/Mottled. Give it to your darling little girl and she'll have a chicken-puppy that never grows up.
and 3 that say FBCM/DL Another Project. My goal is a Dark Layer that doesn't eat one out of house and home with lazy laying. Marans eat too much and don't lay enough to justify keeping them just for pretty eggs...so I wanted to make a pretty layer that cranks out darker eggs. This is the second gen, and the hen is new to the project, so they aren't as dark as the eggs of the offspring will be (hopefully) nor as large.
So what are they!!!

Thank you so VERY MUCH for donating these eggs for my Easter Hatch, you are so very kind!
All of my eggs were so well packed, no cracks for any of them. It should be interesting to see how the PO affected the eggs from all of the different areas of the country. MD, IL, KS & CA.

Still waiting to see if ca comes through with the eggs from Wickenburg.

Spent time on the phone with a nice gentleman from GQF this morning to help me get the temp up in my 1588. It's right on 100... probably too hot but I'm not going to mess with it.

I was able to get my turner working. I suppose I should just order / buy another one so I have a backup!
Well at present my TOTAL EGGS in the bator will be 28 + 37 = 65
I so wish the eggs from my coop were fertile. I'd be stacking. As it is, I've got 5 empty slots.
pain pills are kicking in. time for a nap!

Funny thing is, the gaps in the USPS system are from when the eggs are in the hands of FedEx, because they can't get their systems to work together...it's sooooooo silly.

I have been trying to figure out what holiday pics to shoot and then I thought What about this for either April Fools Day or Halloween

If they smash my eggs, someone will have had a very hard workout...I hope you get them soon!

If I tried to incubate that many, I would be homeless for sure....! Haven't even told DH about the eggs for hatch-a-long yet
hide.gif

Mine threw a fit when I came home with eggs, and then I pointed out I've been hatching all week and he hadn't even noticed yet. He stopped talking and walked away.

Well an unexpected flood here (Creek flooded), I had to move all my chickens and by doing so i think they got a little stressed, the big kids I locked up in their coops, their coops are 2 feet off the ground, The little kids who didn't have a coop yet were moved into the garage, along with the rabbits, water rose to about 2 inches below the floor of my coops, but then it subsided. It took all night for the water to recede back. They only laid only a few eggs, which is to be expected after such an unexpected move. Because of this though i will have to give up 2 dozen of the eggs i collected for the hatch-along because today and tomorrow I was supposed to collect eggs for the elementary class room and since the gals aren't laying because they got stressed I will not be setting as many as I would have liked! Oh Well thats mother nature for ya, All my babies are safe and sound and thats all that matters.
Yikes!

Thank goodness all of the birds are okay.

Just checking: but no one sent me eggs except for Tazcat, right? I don't remember talking to anyone about it, but the Marys are sneaky and I misplaced my marbles when I lost my camera.
