Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Ok, I am on the fence. I don't have any one that wants chicks from me now. I want to hatch some NH's for myself but I was hoping to have a broody do it for me so I don't have to fool with the brooding and then later integrating. I have 6 NH eggs that I collected from the one of three NH hens that is laying. What should I do

HH, (As you look at the imaginary swinging pocket watch in front of your face and read in a slow monotone manner) What you should do is post here that you are in and PM Mahonri to put you on the list. Then tomorrow at noon your time, put the eggs that you have collected, plus the ones you get in the morning (and afternoon for that matter) into the incubator. If you have a broody during the 21 days, take the eggs out of the bator and give them to the hen. Simple....do it now.........

ok how can you tell if the eggs have a detached air cell or is scrambled i candled some of mine 5 looks like theya re detached or scrambled but i reall can not see an air cell at all on the others what do i look for

Look for a void or "airspace" on the fat end of the egg.

Will be busy tomorrow morning looking at a new brooder and taking a prospective foster to visit a horse. Won't be able to keep up with all the post with out a place marker.

Good Night!!!!!!!!

Just after 7PM here and I'm tired. I hope I can sleep. The nurse told me that if I didn't feel pain, THEN I would really need to worry because that would mean that the heat had destroyed all of the nerves and blood vessels.

So... I suppose I can be happy I'm hurting.

Remember how I said I was suppose to be hanging out with a friend of mine tonight? Here we are, hours later and he never showed up. Fantastic. I just lost a lot of faith in him. Yeah, sure. He'll try to make it up to me with things that involve more chickens, but I'm not holding my breath.

On the other hand, I'm really excited about tomorrow. My neighbor will be bringing his eggs over (I hope) and I'll get to hatch a bunch of different colors!
