Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Ohhhhhh, I am soooooo worried about kvmommy's child !

I will endorse, over and over again....... get a proper thermometer for an incubator, like the Brinsea spot check.

This is awful. Just awful. I am praying this child has no ill effects, but I am very worried.

There are a few treatments for mercury poisoning.. but they have to be done RIGHT AWAY!

Prayers headed her way wherever she is!

99% of aquarium thermometers that are less than 10 years old are mostly harmless

The balls are lead or steel (much like BBs) they are used to weigh down aquarium thermometers so they don't float. The red liquid is usually alcohol.

CALL POISON CONTROL

OMG....DS was outside with DD and I was watching them through window while I was doing dishes. They're playing with dirt and sticks and stuff and all of the sudden DD starts screaming. I run out and she has a small cut on her finger and its bleeding. after I clean it up I make her show me what cut her, it turns out its my missing aquarium thermometer. The alcohol part is intact but the glass and beads aren't. DD says DS was eating the beads. So I run and check his mouth and there's no glass or cuts in his mouth but theres beads all over it. Does anyone know what those beads are? ARe they lead? Should I take DS to the ER?? I feel like the worst mommy ever.

As moms were often feel guilty, because we care so much about our children. We can only do our best . . . kids will get into trouble even then.

well my incubator is reading 100. Needs to be 101 since it's still air. But I'm not bothering it. The humidity was in the 30's but I guess with the weather its sitting at 40 right now. I haven't put any water in. I'm trying the dry hatch method I found. Anyone else tried this? If so what's your opinions on it?

Open plugs or open the bator... you know now that you have your temps stable.

Mine has been at 97 degrees since 7AM an hasn't moved. Oh well.

Have you checked the calibration of the thermometer? It is not uncommon for them to be 1 to 5 deg off. i use calibrated thermometers to check actual temp comparing them to the installed therm's.You can get one from the local auto store for a couple bucks that looks like this: http://www.qasupplies.com/pocdialther.html and here is a link that tells you how to calibrate it your self....SUPER EASY!!!!!!!!! I use the ice calibration method http://nfsmi-web01.nfsmi.olemiss.edu/documentlibraryfiles/PDF/20091123095311.pdf This should ease your mind and let you know exactly where you are at

mercury is a liquid and will not be solid at at atmospheric pressure, as long as the inner tube is not broken it should be ok call poison control anyway just to be safe...
