Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Alrighty then. I've really learned alot about my Genesis 1588.

How did I finally get it to stablize?

I took it back to where it was.

While the incubator was plugged in, I

1. Turned all switches off
2. Turned on 2, 4,6 & 8 switches.
Let it blink 3 times... 3 times.
3. Turned off the 2, 4, 6 & 8 switches.
4. Turned on the "6" switch.
5. It's been stable at 99.8 degrees now for over two hours. (this is with the Brinsea Spot check)
I have 3 other thermometers in there. one says 99. 4, one says 99.2. one says 100.1 and another says 100.
I'd guess I've arrived. I'm not opening that bator again until the 25th now when I do my first candle.
I'll just add warm water through the tube whenever the humidity gauges say it's less than 30.

WAHOO!

Wouldn't it be cool if I hatched over 30???

it would be great if you hatch 38but i hope you can get more than that with the temp problems finally after several hrs mine has finally stabelized and i can take a sigh of releif for now it has been stable now for about 12 hrs and i do not plan on desterbing the incubators at all unless i need to add water or when i switch the eggs stacked on top with eggs sitting in the slots of the turner to give them all time in the turners to make sure they all get turned correctly

Ok, I finally caught up again! :th

I had set 66 eggs this afternoon.

14 frizzle Turkens! Shipped from Dipsy Doodle Doo
12 Buff Orpingtons! Shipped from Hikjic
13 Light Brahmas! Shipped from Turrbrahma
3 Cochins! Also shipped from Turrbrahma
15 Tomaru Longcrowers! Home laid
9 Icelandics! Home laid

ETA- 2 Emu eggs!!! Shipped from New Mexico!

I have a prayer request if you all don't mind- I am experimenting a way to get rid of Mycoplasma gallisepticum in my flocks, one of the ways to do it is dip the eggs in a bowl of antibiotic water, and hope that the antibiotics destroys the disease before it infect the embryos. That way I can rebuild my farm with MG clean chicks from the infected stock. Please pray that God will allow the experiment to work. I have dipped all the eggs that I have set, to be on the safe side. I will have the chicks swab tested as soon they hatch.

Many thanks!

Ok, now it's my turn to panic. Temp was holding great but now I just noticed that it's at 102. Could this be because I turned the turner on this afternoon? Should I turn it down? Ahhhhhhhh hate to make changes this late at night.

My understanding is that the turner generates heat. 102 is the maximum I would want to be long term. High normal. Will you be able to continue monitoring it and see if adjusting it lower may be in order?

When you set up the incubator and tested for holding temp, did you have the turner on??

I have a Brinsea Spot Check Thermometer. It's spot on.

It actually did go up to 97.4... but I'm thinking that's cuz it's getting warmer in the house.

Are you positive your Spot Check is STILL right? I wonder if they can go bad?

Thanks for the concern and advice! I knew it wasn't mercury but an alcohol thermometer but I was worried about the beads containing lead. I got my cell charged enough and called poison control. The beads steel shot but probably have lead, but not enough to cause lead poisoning. Thank God! They said he'll be totally fine and I'll probably find some beads in his poop. I'm seriously thinking about getting a landline since my cell phone can't hold a charge more than a few hours and half the time its dead. wow....what a day.

I get my batteries cheap on ebay.

What the heck, I'll try five. Do I turn off the 4 and then the five, Do I unplug it, turn off the 4 and then the five.
Or do I have both the 4 and the 5 down at the same time...cuz everything I've read says it won't work unless the 4 is engaged?

... and I won't be around at all tomorrow to check on it... with the exception of lunch hour. My girls have me double booked all day from 8 to 6.

... that is unless I decide to go to the hospital.

I'm finding that burns mature over time... but I'm a tough guy...

Don't take any chances...you need to be careful about infection and have your wife watch, as well.

Since 100s are watching this........... I am looking for Golden Lakenvelders. Does anyone have them or know someone, Please let me know. Thanks

Heya! I sold my flock last year to Ivywoods (Susie). She's still got them and can help you out! I had bred them from 3 different lines and they were wonderful!

What kind of roo is that and how can I get one?

He's a South American. I can't guarantee what you'd hatch, as they are all different, like Icelandics. You can see more pics of the flock in my profile.

catching up on this thread is hard work. i finally finished the 300+ posts that had accumulated sometime this weekend. and i still have 130 pages to read from when i was gone last week. i went and bought a netbook to carry around the house so i could catch up on byc business, LOL

i finally took the heat lamp away from my valentines hatch chicks. they're 5 weeks and fully feathered, plus its been warm here in AZ and they've been sleeping on top of the box instead of inside it. but today it has been rainy and cold, they dont seem to be complaining, they are all in the box again, with no lamp... i wonder if they will get a chill. should i worry about them? there are 17, i'm trying to convince myself they can generate enough heat on their own... ??
