Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Did you know it's nearly the end of the month already??

If you haven't submitted three nominations for the BYC Member Recognition Awards, get on over to the nomination form and do it!

Remember, you can nominate someone for Spirit (knowledgable and full of spirit), Friend (a particularly friendly BYC community member), or for Educator (a member who helps to further the knowledge of other members, and who has lots of experience to share).

We love that you are all so wonderful about spreading the love and giving back to those who make BYC the home it is. Thanks!!

Went to a local auction Sun. There were 3 ADORABLE 6-7 week old Emu babies. I sat there and listed off EVERY reason why we would not be going home with them. Ignored all the begging and pleading from my kids and my mother was with us and was just no help at all.

And we didn't come home with them...but every time I see these babies pictures, I feel myself caving.

oh, oh, ohh, OH! It is relatively easy for me to say "no" to hatching an emu egg or four, but if I encountered emu CHICKS I am afraid I'd have to tuck one under each arm and hold out my credit card right then and there, regardless of the lack of proper space for adult emus. And on another note, thank you, everyone, for your cyber hugs and comments regarding Smudge's departure from this plane. I, too, think it was much better that His Royal Smudgeness took control from me and refused to leave our property. He had spent Sunday night right next to me on my pillow. I think he would have been really tweaked with emu chicks. Those chickens, chicks, ducklings, ducks, goslings and geese already got more of my attention than he thought was necessary or even right. He didn't mind the dogs - they moved over for him when HE wanted on my lap. And he got first dibs on Lizbeth's bowl of kibble.

I plan on stocking the freezer this fall. I am planning on making a plucker to assist me in this endeavor. I hope that this does not offend others But, I am hatching allot of chicks and will be free ranging them on my five acres. I an attempt to eat better quality chicken than those raised in chicken barns by mass producers.

I'd be interested in your ideas for a plucker. I think we're going to make an attachment for our cordless drill, just a small PVC pipe with some rubber fingers in it.
AND: Check out my awesome new incubator! Only works for mini banties though.

He sounds like quite the character.

We got hail after our snow melted today (the hail has now mostly melted) but... 2 inches of snow predicted for tonight. I just can't win.

But I did discover I have miracle ducks that can walk on water:
