LOL hysterically!!!

As I mentioned on Monday, I made an appointment to assist my ailing Himalayan across the Rainbow Bridge. (Yes, Deb, it was the Pleasant Valley Vet Hospital, thanks for the recommendation!)
Well, His Smudgeness decided to cross without any assistance about two hours before that appointment. He chose my bedroom closet as his place of departure.
My very good friends HHandbasket and Farmer Lew came over in the evening to dig Smudge's grave and perform a Native American burial, complete with burning sage, offerings for the Cedar under which we placed him, and sang the Traveling Song for his spirit.
Smudge, as was usual for him, just wanted to do it his way.

I'm sorry for your loss. I do think his crossing was beautiful. He chose his time and place, went with comfort, and was honored with love. I hope my pets are as peaceful when they go.

Oh, my! What a consolation prize!!!

Let's see... Today is Day 11, 264 hours. It's getting dark in there, so it's tough to get a good picture.

Glad no one got sprayed and the chickens are alright.

Last night I got distracted and forgot to lock the chickens up for the night. So this morning I send my 10 year old DS out there just before sunrise to lock them up real quick before they wake up for the day. He goes running over and there was a SKUNK drinking the chickens water.

My DS stops short and back peddles just in time to miss getting sprayed! He comes running in the house to tell me there is a skunk in the chicken coop! So I get my shoes and coat on and go tiptoeing over there (Shear Genius I know!) and peek in the coop. I turn on the light and while it stinks to high heaven, the skunk is no where to be seen, so I turn of the light and shut the coop up. Luckily no one got sprayed (that would have been terrible considering we were just getting ready to leave for school). Then I had to come in and tell the DH that I almost got the chickies killed.

That reminds me, I need to go set the trap! We caught 5 of those darn skunks last year. I don't know how make them under stand this is NOT THEIR HOME!

I have two roos (brothers) that share one hen. I've never seen them fight over her, the three of them are just always together. She builds a nest up along the house foundation in the flower bed, and when she lays an egg, all 3 of them are out there signing the egg song. I think they are just good friends. I don't even know if her eggs are fertile.

If I do the turkey hatch, I'll have to throw in a couple of her eggs to see.

Well my whole theory of being able to tell one birds eggs from another was shot to the curb. I wanted to see if Lavern was laying the bluest egg. Yesterday's egg was greenish blue and kind of long and tapered. Today it was a really pretty blue. Stuck my other hen back in so I probably won't know who's is who's since hers are usually pretty blue to and today her's was greenish blue. I give up. My the BBS girls will be easier. NOT!

Spent a good part of both yeaterday and today dealing with the USPS. I mailed two carton of eggs on Sataurday. One went MIA and the other arrived earlier than expected but totally destroyed. SO much for paying for tracking!!

First package left the post office and disappeared into thin air. Contacted the phone number on the tracking paper and had to call back during open hours. Only to have the person tell me what I could already see on the website . Did get a number to cal for Customer Affairs. Called CA today, very nice woman, will work on this tomorrow. TOMORROW!!!

Earlier today I received an email : the eggs had arrived at the second destination, the eggs were literally scrambled and the box looked destroyed from the photo (waiting verbal confirmation ). I resent another box of eggs. I'm on the look out of a better quality box than the USPS priority box. Seems like this box cannot withstand what the USPS throws at it. OR rather, it cannot withstand the abuse when USPS throws it!

The MN package has not arrived, and still MIA. I told her I would replace the eggs, what else can I do. I've lost a bit of money and time on this and I hope the USPS will reimburse at least the postage. But I'm not holding my breathe.

Rant over.

TIme for bed. ROUgh couple of days dealing with those eggs. ANd today was my oldest DS 10th birthday. Hard to belieive he is 10. He helped make the cake so we could celebrate after soccer practice. AND takeout, got a loud HHOOOP of approval! His Fav is CHinese. HE wants a jack knife--we are looking for a locking blade type. Afterall, he's only 10!!

Did you try using the pipe insulator that won the contest? That should add some structural integrity(Darn Star Trek-Next Generation

) to the package.
