Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

We were talking earlier about the benefit of eliminating dairy when trying to control allergies. I realized if I don't eat yogurt I need a very good source of probiotics. ANd not the stuff I feed my horses please.

A very good probiotic source??
I just buy a good one from a heath food store..jar of some that is. I get the chewables, but also have capsules in there. Need to refrigerate after opening the jar.

I have Sundown Naturals in my fridge right now..chewables.

That's the white bread recipe I use all the time. In fact, I've won the white bread class at my fair with that recipe for at least the last five years. That is the loaf I was making which started the whole discussion of bread baking on this thread, many, many page ago, March 5th to be exact. The only thing I've tweaked about it, is I add 2 Tbls nonfat dry milk.

Wow, this bread baking has really come full circle!

Deb

Oh my goodness! I swear my nose just smelled fresh bread cooking when I took a look at this picture. You know, getting a loaf of bread that tastes good is one thing, but getting that loaf to look pretty is another..that looks yuuumy! Perfect color~~

Homemade toybox bator entry. I can't find my batteries to my camera so can't upload my revised product. Here it is before I changed things. I cut windows into the top and put plexi glass. I cut the little picture front out and added hinges to make a door for easy access to water and things on the bottom, plus This can hold two long racks so I'd be able to have quick access to the bottom rack if need be. The whole inside is lined with reflective insulating material and foam weather stripping around all edges. There is a large PC fan hooked to a 12v cord and the termostat is a Reptipro500 and is currently hooked to two 2.5 ft 3" Flexwatt...I think its 17w, not sure but its the one that has the most heat output. I tried bulbs but they burned the insulation. In the pic is one 11" flexwatt...it barely kept the heat up so thats why I got two with more heat output and over a large surface. The most expensive part was the thermostat that was about $30 and the flexwatt was about $20 but I had them put it together for me. I had the fan and the cord. The insulation wasn't expensive. And I caulked it before insulating it with bathroom caulk that we had lying around. Note to self, do not wear expensive clothing while caulking. I ruined both shirt and pants.

This is my first time hatching eggs so excuse my excitement, but last night I was looking through some eggs and OMG! I seen a little beak and then a foot move up towards the beak!!! It was so cute. And just made my day. Plus it was one of my Blue or Black Silkie eggs so that just made it even better. I just hope it makes it through to hatch day!!!

Not quite sure what happened this morning. I went to Farm and Fleet and left with 14 chicks, 6 Turkens (I have always had a soft spot for them), 3 White Crested Black Polish, 2 Silver laced Polish, and 3 Silkies (I think they are porcelain). If you add them to the 37 eggs growing in my incubator right now (if I get a decent hatch rate), my brooder should be nice and "full" by the end of next weekend. Chicken math is great.

You don't know what happened? You looked, you caved!!

It is awesome, isn't it? This is about my 4th hatch and I still love seeing the little chickies in their egg!

I don't think the excitement ends with future hatches. You might candle less, but the excitement is there.
