Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

I request a white emu, please.

X3 (someone else wanted a white emu as well)

Good Morning All,

Couple of ?'s here.
I candled last night and could see developing air sacs and movement in all but 2 eggs.
Being my first time doing this it seems like the movement is probably a good sign?
The eggs are so thick that I can't make out a whole lot else.
Do I need to candle one more time before lock down?
Thanks for any input.

I hope you put the two eggs back in with the others. On my first hatch, I never saw movement, the shells were too dark. I would leave the two in for now.
Movement is a GREAT sign.
It is a personal preference about candling. You don't need to candle at all but most people do to catch the clears and quitters before lockdown.

Spangled - Visio can be purchased by anyone. I think it is expensive? I only have it on my computer at work because my company paid for it. It is a handy program for doing charts and some simple CAD stuff. I don't need to do those at home, so I haven't bought it for my computer.

SCG - sorry about your hen

I think I am going to candle this morning and see how things are going. I don't know if I will have time to candle the night we go into lockdown. Good news is that DH will be home on Friday next week!

I am happy to report that after the 5 hour power outage and temps in bators down to 75 I have chicks hatching this weekend that I set on 3/10. I figured they'd be late but right on time.:celebrate

SO cool! Very revealing. WOuld you consider placing all the ph otos in a single thread with both point of view? LOL
Hmm... Yeah, I might do that. I'll let you know.

I have 12 out of 15 developing - two clears and one early quitter so far. Not bad for eggs that spent 5-6 days in "Priority" mail!

Packing is really interesting.

1 of 7 (14%) of these eggs are developing:

4 of 12 (33%) of these eggs are developing:

And 12 of 15 (80%) of these eggs are developing:

When I shipped my swap eggs, I used James' method (above), and all 10 arrived intact. I wonder how many will hatch? I can't wait to see my flock's cross-country offspring.

Just finished candling. I only had to pull a few more. Three blood rings and one quitter. My waxed egg is still developing. I guess that little guy (it has to be a roo since it is so stubborn

) just wants to live. I will probably candle the night of lockdown since I had a couple I wasn't sure about. They seemed to be behind in development but the veins were still evident so they get to stay for now. I think I am down to only two or three Konzas. I was surprised that all three fluffied AM's are developing well and the Konzas are having such a hard time.

Who knows what happens to these eggs in the hands of the PO?
