I've packed a lot of things ( packing at mail order catalog companies and QC inspector) and I NEVER would have thought this would work!!! Very pretty, and funny!!!!

THanks Kathy!

My eggs came in like that and they were perfect! Although I just tossed a lot of them because nothing developed. :(

We really need some more pictures, so I can have a calendar printed. I would really like to focus on holidays, rather than random chicken pictures. Can you help?

I'm working on some!!! Trying to think of something for September and August....

Spangled, lol..not sure you have to order 50, it's just the one I picked out for showing another cute one. But, ya know, if you ship eggs, you could put a sticker in the box just for fun. :)

Oh, that is a great idea. The folks getting the eggs would love a perk! I hope someone decides to do this because I don't ship eggs. Never have. Too many horror stories and I've not ever received a good shipment of eggs either.

Oh. That's too bad about her not being able to vocalize. I figured her squawking might make her easier to find. But it could still happen. Maybe that's why you haven't found her yet and she will wander home when it gets light.

Goose, Duck, Pig ... all in a pile. Oh, that would be a sight. How cute.

NOT a good week. For friends that pray... pray for me and my family.

Oh, Mahonri.

I just tossed 14 eggs. :( I went from 62 eggs down to 31 I think. I guess that's not bad considering this is my first time and they were shipped. I'm ready for them to hatch already. I think I've stressed more on this than taking care of all the animals I have LOL. Uh 7 more days!!!! I'd love if the 30 eggs hatch.

I hope all is well with you, Mahonri.

I am confused. One of my BCM eggs seemed like it had died. I went to toss it, but decided to candle first. I can see movement in there! It doesn't seem like it's gotten any bigger or more developed, and it's obviously way farther behind my other eggs, but I could swear I saw something wiggling around. It still looks like it's 6-7 days along, even though it's 12 or so. Well, I don't have a lot of hope for a healthy chick, but I won't worry about it exploding.

According to a published paper by Varricchio, et al, the Troodon formosus dinosaur brooded her eggs in the sand with the pointy end down. I found that interesting since quite a few of my chickens' eggs are being incubated in the same position.

One of these times that I want to send a hug like this:

I will accidentally instead send a smack like this:

Because they look so very close to me. Two circles. One is pink. One is blue. And the animation is super slow on the popup window where I choose the emoticon that I want. Time and again, I almost pick the wrong one.

If anyone ever sees me do that, please PM me immediately so that I can go back and edit in the proper emoticon. Can you imagine how awful that would be?

Anyway, I didn't end up candling tonight.

I have so neglected this hatch because I've been running around so much. I keep forgetting to check the temp on the incubator and I haven't been very responsible with the tilting of the Brinsea. But I haven't given up hope.

I am looking for links to really helpful candling photos and instructions. I've looked at several and am not sure I'm reading my eggs properly. I candled on day 13 and out of 52 eggs set, I only took out two I was sure were not developing. There were some that were too dark to see into and a few I wasn't sure about.

I will probably candle again tomorrow night (day 16) and want to be sure I know what I'm doing!

This is my first hatch!

Also, when do you recommend lockdown? My day one technically started Friday night, instead of Saturday ... so my day 18 technically starts Monday night???

Thanks!
To all of you wondering when to lockdown the egg: Any time on day 18 is fine. The chicks will be past when they will stick to the shell and become deformed.

Getting the humidity right is more important, so if one needs to wait even a day to get the humidity correct it won't hurt the chicks.

NOT a good week. For friends that pray... pray for me and my family.

I'll be locking down Wednesday at lunch... hoping none of the Icelandics pip early.
You have my prayers for you and your family.

I hope all is well with you, Mahonri.

Perhaps there is a cool spot in the incubator. I have had staggered hatches work out just fine, so good luck with this straggler. I also read that marans run late, 22day; but then there's another reporting right on time. IDK, I have 12 marans in. one is clear; others are dark.

And I can't see thru them, not the EE eggs. One BO is clear.

I have been bad, bad bad, I think the first week I did get 3 turns a day in, but not this week. Sometimes 3, often 2 turns. Temps running hotter than I like. One more week and I'll know the results! I so want a turner!

OK, it's been crazy busy here. Our temps have suddenly been staying above freezing which means our record snowfall is melting, meaning lots of water everywhere. It' can't soak into the ground because the ground is frozen. It is a constant chore moving the melting slush to places where it can melt safely, without flooding the house.

Today our exchange student from Denmark moved in, and we are babysitting a 1year old for a friend. Our exchange student has been here since August, they are required to learn english starting in 5th grade so she speaks very well. She even ventured out to the barn and met the puppies and the birds. I candled a couple eggs while she was watching me turn them. She was very interested and I always love to show new people. they are always so amazed.

Murphy's Law is alive and well, while I was cooking dinner, water suddenly started pouring in through a kitchen light fixture. DH came running when I called, then held a bowl in place till I could grab the ladder (I'm too short to hold the bowl above the cabinet. Then he climbed up and propped a bucket at a jaunty angle that allowed it to catch the drips. Fortunately it must have just been a puddle because it slowed to a very slow drip in about 8-10 minutes. Tomorrow we will have to get on the roof and shovel off the slush as it works like a dam trapping water and not letting it drain off.

BUT my DD did get the egg art done.. finally.
