Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Hold on, Roos are more sensitive to higher temps so it is LESS likely that any will be Roos

And a couple degrees won't be fatal. Remember broody momma's breast can be 102 and she gets off the nest which allows them to cool.

Breath, all will work out.

Relax....

Just did my lockdown.. a bit early, but I'll be at work today at noon. Have eggs in the styrobator and was trying dry hatching this time around, so hopefully something actually hatches. This is my first time hatching any white eggs, as my leghorns haven't been too cooperative with the roos in the past - wow, seeing through a white egg is cool and so much easier- those embryo's are trying to get out of there NOW lol.

Gooood morning hatchers!

Getting inspected again at work today... Not a fun day of festivities planned. It was supposed to be my day off... The good news is I might be able to swing getting Friday off instead and having a 3 day weekend. My luck I'll have to come in Friday, too.

And I wouldn't recommend drinking a big cup of Sleepytime Tea right before bed. It may help you get to sleep, but sure doesn't help you stay asleep if you know what I'm sayin'.

Bad ideas... I have them.

MN called.

temp in 1588 was 99.6.

Added some more cool H20.

I have no idea which of the three hygrometers are correct.
They measured 59, 66 and 72 respectively before I added more water.

At present there are
2 Audin Icelandics pipped.
2 WMR Ameraucanas pipped.

No chicks hatched yet.

All for day 17-18!.

I must have really cooked them at 101 the entire time.... time to get a new spot check.

I am confused. I see quite a few hatchers starting "lockdown" today. We aren't supposed to do that until tomorrow right?

Yes! You are correct. However, sometimes having a steady job and a family to take care of gets in the way of having fun.

As I explained in my post I went to lock down 24 hrs early because of my work schedule.

Good Morning....
Did my final candle last night and I also have a pip...that is now zipping. It is a Porcelain D'Uccle from happyhensny. Also saw another internally pipped. So plugged in the Brinsea and moved all the PD's over, then plugged in the Genesis and will move the rest of the eggs over today. Seems like these babies are in a hurry.

Good morning hatchers!!!! I see that Mahonri is going loco already. I believe this happened last year too but it was a day later, like Thursday I think. Kathy, you tell whomever did those eggs they are awesome! I have a little skill but those really are superb.

SCG I thought your story was really cute. I know I would feel guilty for LOPPING OFF a part of my chick's TOE!!!!!! Let her come INSIDE. You OWE it to her!

Sent you a PM with the corrected tracking number on your turkey eggs. The box left SLC yesterday. (DUH I would hope so, and they wonder why the PO is going out of business

I will lockdown this afternoon/evening. I can't do it at noon since I will be at work and I don't want to rush it this morning. I would have gotten everything prepped last night but I wound up running around buying some goodies for the guys at work. I am trying to bribe (that's right I said bribe

) them into getting more excited about turning in improvement ideas. So far their only idea that they turned in was "get us a new fridge, ours is broken". To be fair it is broken and has been broken for a while (they could just keep their lunches outside for the last few months), so to prove to them that we are taking their "suggestions" seriously, the new fridge is being delivered today and I will put the goodies in it to "INSPIRE" them.

Candled and 34 of 40 started made it to lockdown. 10 of the 34 are olive eggers with dark shells and I can't see into them so in they went for lockdown. No is the awful part od just waiting, watching, pacing, looking, thinking, and hoping for the best. This is my daughters and I's first hatch and were so nervous. How do you guys do this over and over!

No time to catch up this morning! I need to read all the stories coming in, and Kathy, is your artist helper Maurice Sendak? Those are incredible!

I pulled 2 more eggs yesterday. I left in some that I know have quit, just because I was desperate. All the Marans and Ameraucanas from Seattle area are toast, so I'm hoping to get a few Basque. 9 look pretty good.

At least I think my OE mutts will hatch. I can't lockdown until late today. I'm off....
