Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

LOCKDOWN!

I have 30 going into lockdown in the 1588 and 6 under the hen. I had 37 out of 50 shipped eggs make it to the lockdown stage, but unfortunately 1 was damaged during the night time transfer to the broody. I must say that I am happy with 74% making it to lockdown on shipped eggs. My genesis 1588 has been spot on with temp every time I have checked it. My other salmon Favorelle has now gone broody. I didn't think they were a very broody breed, but I guess my two hens are.

Got up and the temps were over 100.5.

Added more cold water.

Didn't seem to help.

4 still pipped without any progression.

I think I'll see if I can order a new digital thermostat for my 1588... don 't know if it will work, but this one is worthless.

I put the temp in the brinsea down to 99.3 hoping it will help the eggs in there. with humidity at 66%.

Off to work.

I truly don't have much hope for the eggs in the 1588, but high hopes for those in the brinsea. crazy.

Ok, so I am one that set early, two days early, why is it that Mahonri is getting pips already..and it sounded like someone else is too...I am looking for pips toward the end of the day, hatch day being tomorrow. Maybe I should crank my hova up to 101 and get early pips!

I'm just hoping I get some to hatch. Most eggs were so dark, you always worry until one of those pip, then theirs a bit of relief.

Thank you all for your help w/lockdown timing suggestions and info ... need some more help.

I increased humidity and took eggs out of turner late last night. I followed incubator instructions. I watched the humidity levels start to increase and then finally went to bed. Early this morning a chick has pipped/piped

but the humidity has leveled off at 57%. Throughout the hatch the humidity reading on the hygrometer (following incubator instructions for days 1 - 18) was about 47% most of the time.

Should I quickly add a damp sponge to the incubator? This is my first hatch and I don't want to hurt the chicks.

Ok, that had to be sooo sad/maddening at the same time. Sorry!

I dropped a Serama egg last night while candling. It was beyond repair.
