Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Well there is no doubt that the temps in the 1588 were way too hot.

FIRST THREE CHICKS OUT!

1. WMR Blue Wheaten Ameraucana
2. WMR Blue Wheaten Ameraucana
3. NotAFarm, Audin Icelandic
4. first pipped, Audin Icelandic almost out.
5. small cochin egg from Renee is pipped.... now remember, I didn't even pick this egg up from the post office until like 8 or 9 AM on the 17th! What are we day 18?

Seems like the Brinsea will be right on time on I don't expect a pip with them till Friday at earliest.

Pics? I have the digital 1588 and it has been holding temps great!

Dude! You and your hatches need to cooperate! I can never win your first out chicks.

SQUEE!! Eggs "A" and "E" have wiggled! This is only my second hatch and in my first one, I never saw an egg move before the pip. How long does it usually take from moving to pipping? I set up a nerdy little chart to keep track of each egg. Time/date/order of each first wiggle observed, pip, zip, and hatch.

Locked down today at 1030a (I set at 930) with 14/27 eggs left. 5 silkies, 9 Australorps. Temps down to 95* and humidity hovering at 60%. Can't seem to get them any higher.
I am a bit jealous at all the pips (and Chicks) already! Maybe I should go stare at them for a while to encourage them? Oh I have to go pick up the kiddos from school so I better not.
I am a bit bummed out about the silkies, all of the white ones were clear and those are the ones I was most anxious for

Well I will be happy if I get anything at all. My DH seems a bit miffed that I had to throw out 13 eggs (I think he was under the impression that 27 eggs means at least 27 chicks, I tried to tell him

)

ETA - I hit the submit when I meant to hit preview oops!

I have hatched both in the cartons and laying down and have had problems both ways. Laying them down seems to work better for me as I tend to overcrowd my 1588s

My experience with hatching in cartons has resulted in pipping below the edge of the carton where I couldn't see - especially with shipped eggs. I've got all mine on their sides now. I am hoping that resting the eggs upright and doing the dry hatch will have improved the hatchability of the shipped eggs I have left.

Mahonri, you are such an over achiever!

I was putting my eggs on lock down a while ago and all of a sudden I heard a egg cheeping. I held all of the eggs up to my ear and it turned out it was one of my BBS silkie eggs!

Already have a egg trying to hatch out.

Funny thing.... I just came inside and sat down at the computer. I get to this entry and giggle a bit, AND THEN...... I hear a chick chirping! One of my Icelandic eggs that I took from my broody's clutch (because she had too many to cover), just hatched. In a HovaBator Genesis with NO water at all, and in a turner (well, actually on top of eggs that are in the turner). I grabbed the chick and took it outside and put it under the broody.
