Oh that makes me so happy! I'm not sure why but it bummed me out when I was told by someone that lived there that they had never heard it called El Toro Mountain. They swore I was remembering it wrong. The most vivid memories of my childhood are from area and that mountain. My happiest memories as a kid.

That is the reason I pushed DH into living in the country for all these years. We finally moved to some acreage last August and he LOVES it!!! We would both like to move back to Santa Clara County though. It is beautiful and rugged here and there's lots of room to stretch out but we miss the kids and the grandkids and all our friends. But I would want land and a "country" feel and that is harder to come by there these days.

My tiny tiny egg, a blue or black silkie. Its had a very active baby in there. So. IF it hatches out

will this baby be okay with the others?? Will they pick on it?? Do I need to move it with another smaller chick or what??? I got a couple of small eggs but this one looks the size of a quail egg almost. Ok maybe not AS small as a quail egg but yeah....lol

After hatching and drying off I do sometimes move much smaller chicks to a separate brooder if they are having trouble. Always with at least one hatchmate though.

Thanks! That little swedish flower hen seems to be doing well. Now, i have another pip from another swedish, even lower. Aaargh. They are all pipping in the pointy end of the egg. I cut my cartons pretty low so most will be fine but there are definitely a few that may pip below the carton if they continue on this path. I guess I just watch and wait for now. Maybe one of these will hatch and knock the others out for me! :)
Great News Jeff!

I would leave the egg alone. You can see the pip, so it is doing it's job.

How do you know if they are internally pipped? I imagine candling to see is a no no after lock down :)

I've been known to do a little pinball 'tilt" with the bator when needed.

I know, so tempting!! I can just reach the coat hanger thru the vent and ... gentle nudge. The chicks seems to be doing well, but just noticed another pipped even lower. Why are the pipping on the pointy end? they are shipped eggs. Others that have pipped have pipped in "normal" spot mid to close to round end

I grew up in San Jose, in the Cambrian Park area.

I am SO excited. I bought some bantam BR chicks, they are about ten days old now.

Look at the way the barring is coming in on the wings!

I can't wait to see their adult plummage. And I hope they have type to match the markings!

I have, um (runs to the incubator to count), 21 eggs that have been locked down since Monday night. 1 is a banty egg on day 18 today and the others are on day 20 - mostly Basques. Well, I have 3 pips in Basque eggs!

There are 8 more that I need to lock down tonight. I might lock down in the other incubator and just move them later at a time when neither incubator has any pips.

I finally went and got some chick starter, cleaned out the brooder, and got it all set up! I'm ready now, any time! Of course, I took Friday off of work and they'll probably all hatch tomorrow

but at least I expect to see some chickies soon!

Well, when I got home from work I did a quick humidity check because I quickly put them into lockdown before work this morning. It was a tad lower than I wanted, so I opened up the incubator to add a little water. As soon as the top was off, the chirping began. One little mystery egg from Mr Heinz had already externally pipped was was chirping away. Not sure what it is, but I think I may have a clue by morning.
