Well, my hovabator officially sucks. Even with two hygrometers in it, set the same as the brinsea, rock solid temps, the only chicks that hatched were the ones that I put in from the brinsea at lockdown to make more space. I did manage to save a few of the almost dead in shells and I have about eight in 'chicken ICU'. Most of the others I peeked into were still alive, but barely and shrinkwrapped. I have pretty good luck with chicken ICU so we'll see how many make it. But lots o DIS eggs. =( So far I think I have 25 or 26 hatched out of the 40 that went into lockdown - but most of those were in the brinsea days 1-18.

On the plus side, I do have lots of cool chicks! was going to try some under a broody tonight, but as I have two broodies and traded a few cockerels for eggs I just decided to give them both eggs tonight.

Out of curiosity, what is your chick icu like?

I'm a bit upset. I had a crippled chick from the last hatch I did before this one and it was dead when I went to move the chicks out to the rabbit cage. It was fine this morning when I fed them. I guess the only good thing that came of it is my MOM said I could have silkies. My nieces (5 and 2) had fallen in love with the crippled chick and this is kinda my way of making up for it. I wanted silkies anyway (I have for a LONG time) and now no one will get mad at me over it!

I lost count of the chicks that have hatched and I have at LEAST one hatched in the bator. Things are looking up for my neighbor. Another of his eggs hatched and several more are pipped.

It is a known issue and Nifty is working to try to get it fixed.

I am with Firefox..love it..have not had any problems...knocking on wood.

I have 14 out so far out of 73 eggs that went into lockdown i am still going and alot have finished their hatches already and i just started today. I have several pips and my second incubator is starting to hatch now i am hoping all hatch i have 46 spoken for and i need some for my daughter also

SERIOUSLY, INCUBATOR?! So, after my temp spike killed nearly all of my babies, I unplugged the incubator for it to cool off. When it was sufficiently cooled, and actually had pretty low temps, I plugged it back in. But it didn't get warmer. Then I found no matter what outlet I used and how much I fiddled with the dial, the light didn't turn on. I now have a heat lamp over the incubator. SIGH! I'm ready to ask my brother if I can borrow one of his broody hens who aren't sitting on anything! Just in case there's any survivors in my not yet pipped chicken eggs (that aren't due until tomorrow) because this is just freakin ridiculous. I pushed a couple wet paper towels through the vent hole a couple times to help with humidity. Earlier I even poured some water through, when a rolled up paper towel was plugging it (so it wasn't just dripping, it was absorbing into the paper towel) I'm wondering if maybe doing that the paper towel hit the heating element and damaged it? Could that then cause a heat spike followed by.. never turning on again? Its an LG.

Yeah I came home to a new baby chick, not the one that was pipped, that one is still trying to zip, it

pipped at the wrong end. We'll see. Still holding out for all 6

My two silkies are just laying there. They're breathing, one kicks out sometimes and one looks at the light and peeps some but thats it hasn't moved from the spot at all. It's been out since 220. (440 now) Is there something I should do??? They aren't moving around like the other two. I'm afraid I'm going to lose them. These are the two we had to help out,

The thermostat probably went bad. You can order them, not to help with this one. Good thing is they should be hatching soon. Chin up

They are very likely just tired from their efforts. Let them rest, they will very likely perk up.
