Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

OK I have the hatching BUG NOW !!! so I have a Q. does anyone here want to do a mother's day hatch-a-long with me?? you know to honor all the mother's everywhere!!!!! if so, let me know and I will set up a thread for it! the set eggs date will be APRIL 22, 2012 also known as Earth Day! or the 21st if you guys want that date instead and you can have any kind of eggs!

Dang, I have 90 eggs cooking right now for the Turkey Hatch Along (admittedly 79 of them the shipped chicken eggs, so I keep telling DH that's like only two chicks

)so I think my incubators are pretty full at the moment.

Otherwise, I seem to be somewhat addicted.

How much do you think I'd have to pay people to take some of my Easter hatch off my hands?

Really?!! Am I gonna be that bad now that I have a better bator?

Yes. Some of us live on the other thread Incubators Anonymous because we have a hatching problem that we love and enable each other!

Thanks!

It's still really smoky today, but it's less windy so hopefully it will stop spreading. DH took a drive yesterday to look at it, and it's definitely a safe distance away.

Oh man! We get terrible fires up here. Breathing that smoke is horrible! I feel for ya.

Hopefully it stays far far away!

Deb, hatch on! I have some Silkie eggs coming! I have not done the Silkies in all the years that I've hatched, but oh my goodness..I have fallen in love. I know they go broody, have a place for them to do that, but I have fallen in love with this one I have, and am so hoping it's a girl, so, just in case it isn't, I had to buy more eggs!

I've never owned silkies either, I always thought they were too frou frou for me. I lean towards either big huge heritage monsters or light racy little birds (campine, lakenvelder, andalusian, leghorn). I also used to look at NN and think, OMG, it looks diseased. Same as in all my years of showing dogs, I mostly showed sighthounds. Of course now I have three very racy, lively border collies and a HUGE great dane. So my tastes run similar to the chickens.

And then I fell for showgirls (they weren't around when I was involved in poultry showing in the late 80's).

I currently have 20 silkie eggs and 8 showgirl eggs cooking! I can't wait and love the little bare naked lady chicks.

That's exactly how I am with the chickens. I've had a lot of different types of egg layers. I just hatched some Exchequers..so excited for those. Only 4 hatched, one didn't make it..those eggs were tiny! They came from pullets..so pretty small..so I was excited to have them make it.
I have no idea why I decided to try the Silkies, probably just because I thought, I haven't hatched those before, I'll give it a try. Those things sell like hot cakes around here. We don't see much of those in the feed stores. So, I sold a lot of them before I fell in love with this one. They really are sweet..at least so far! I have a lot of grand children that will love them. Pretty cute..not sure I like the comb on the boys..but that is different, and I like different. As far as dogs go, I used to rescue and foster, so I have had a lot of different dogs in my life..love them! I have a Golden, have had a Golden Retriever in my life for years. This big boy I have now will probably be my last big dog..I prefer big dogs, but I'm getting too old to handle them..lol..even though he has been one of my easiest to train..really wants to please. I have a Yorkie, and a Schnoodle...see..different!
Funny you mention Showgirls..I wonder, but am guessing, that their persnality is about the same as the Silkie. I have been watching some on e-bay, I just prefer buying on BYC though. The ones I'm watchng on e-bay are from a gal that is on BYC. :)

Ahhh, Exchequers, I have looked at them more than once, beautiful. My DH decided he wanted serama (also not around before when I was), I ordered some eggs and lo and behold, she was also selling showgirls. So, six paint eggs found their way into my shipping box. The rest of my group was coming from CJ. Her sale ad said, whatever color laid that day. Everyone was saying "no showgirls", in my order I said, send them all to me!

Boston and his DW just came by to pick up 4 wheaten Am. pullets from my NYD hatch.... Trying to build up their purebred flock so I'll have someone closer with purebred hatching eggs.... their's method to my madness.

You should go to the Silkie thread. Put up a picture of your Silkie eggs that are in the bator. They love pictures, and will be wanting to see the babies when they hatch. It's a fun thread, and, it moves kind of fast..it's fun. I have my baby on their that I kept. Like I said, they love pictures on that thread!
