Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Dang I wish I'd seen this pic to include in the cutest chic pic poll....

A parrot, rejected by it's parents. I wonder why?....

That is just - Wrong

I can't see the pic for some reason!

Lucky you!

I am hatching on, wheaten/BW ams and bantam cochins last weekend, silkies and bantam cochins baking, and bantam cochins, silkies and B/BL/Sp orps on the way. There is something wrong with me - although I did sell 4 hens and 17 hens and chicks this last week

Oh the Wells Fargo wagon is a coming down the street, I wish I wish I knew what it could be.
I got a box of maple sugar for my birthday,
In March I got a gray makinaw,
and once I got some grapefruit from Tampa,
Montgomery Ward sent me a bathtub, and a cross cut saw.

Amazing, I hadn't thought of that song in 40 years! Thanks for the flashback!

ETA - LOL! I did a quick search and evidently that song is from The Music Man! I never knew....... and I had some of the words wrong, but I was close! I changed them! Now they're right!

Yup, they were all excited about their band instruments that were suppose to arrive any time.........great old movie/musical!

Was that the movie with There's gonna be trouble ... right here in River City? Something about pool tables? Or is that something else? (Too many movies, so little time. Saw Moneyball finally.)

Congrats to all of the winners, this has really been a full 2 and a half months and 11041 posts worth of FUN!

x2 11041+ posts of fun. Good job at running this thing (w/ helpers), Mahonri. Thanks, too.

Oh the good ol days!

I think brooding them was extremely difficult way back then, with gas burners and such, right? I cannot imagine chicks for less than 4 cents each. I think we have a much larger selection now, though, and for that I'm thankful because I like a lot of color out there in my backyard and I like being able to (mostly) tell each chicken apart with just a glance from 10 ft away.

So true, I set 30 of my own eggs and 27 hatched, for a rate of 90% I set 19 shipped eggs and 5 hatched for a rate of 26%, overall I ended up with a hatch rate of 65%. I was pretty happy with that since 39% of my eggs set were shipped.

Congratulations on your hatch, you did a great job!

Yeah, your 90% is an A! Yet by some weird roll of the dice, I win best hatch rate with an 89% B+. Don't get me wrong, I'll take it ... it sort of makes up for my poor little chicky getting last place 0% (no kidding!) in the cutest chick from this hatch contest. But I'm not going to believe I won best hatch until the little GFM? banner is near my name ... can't count chickens before they hatch, right? But a big thanks to BYC for offering up a prize and a contest for the the best hatch rate. And all the other prizes BYC, Brinsea, and BYC members (were there others?) offered and the contests they ran. I'm still looking forward to seeing if the person I voted for wins the Best Hatch Participant prize! Plus the Flapper contest. I really like that bell that is the prize, but didn't enter.

....counting today, only 8 more work days before I retire.

Wow! Congratulations!

I will never be able to retire. I have 7 children.

I will continue to wonder which patient I'll fall over on someday....

Oh, great, another reason to fear going to the dentist. (I can't get the man laughing on the ground icon to work so imagine it here.)

Is that what parrot babies look like? Oh, dear. Kangaroo babies are pretty odd looking, too, as they wander down to live in their pouches.

Well I have been mia for a while. Mycomputer went crazy and wont work. My cat had 3 cute little kittens, one being a calico manx. I actually woke up to her trying to have kittens in my bed snuggled up to me under the covers! Huge dog fight cause the neighbors couldnt keep their dog up and my doberman and boxer jumped her right off my front porch. I broke up the fight and their dog looked fine. Well she disappeared and they think my dogs killed her and I just wont tell them. So now there is bad blood even though their dog was in my yard! Then I realize my electricity is thrned off in the house because my dh is the king of procrastination. So I had to move my hatcher with 12 eggs in it due to hatch tomorrpw, to the shop. The electricity didnt get turned off there for some reason. The temps were below 80 when I figured it out, now I cant get them above 90! I think im going to go crazy. I hope my eggs will be alright.

I always call that the "working until they shovel you in" retirement plan. I was the payroll manager for a government office for 25+ years (3,000+ people). I can't tell you the number of people that passed away shortly after retiring. One man I worked with retired, took off one week, came back to work as a retired annuitant and passed away two weeks later. I felt so sorry for him & his family. I retired in 12/2010, took off the weekend and have been working as a retired annuitant ever since. However I'm only working 30 hours every other week, so it's not too bad. It gives me some freedom to have 9 days off in a row each time and I truly don't mind when they call me with questions in between.

Oh Dear! Now you've gone and done it!!! Until now I never knew I was "that" generation! But yes, that's what we always called it. Monkey Wards. Jeez I'm not THAT old!

Noooooooooo, you're just a product of that generation, like me. That's why I knew my mom always said that. That generation (my mom) was born in 1919.

Never retiring keeps you going forever . . like the energizer bunny!

Nooooooooooo, I'm hoping to be good for another 30 years anyway, doing what I want.
