As a sub postal carrier I'm curious as to what my fellow chicken lovers think about the 5 day mail delivery. I of course am against it since that is the one day I carry. I would lose my job! Guess my days of cleaning toilets would come back into play if it happens. So are you for a 5 day mail delivery or against a 5 day mail delivery and why?

the only thing I get important in saturdays mail is a check. And since our post office doesnt even deliver it after 5pm on saturday its already pointless to try to get to the bank, and of course they are closed. They even get all snarky if I ask to pick up my mail on saturday vs having it delivered so I can deposit my check before my bank closes at 12:30

Honestly, cutting out saturday delivery may mean that I'll get my check by friday which would be infinitely better IMHO. And if you've seen my PO rants you'd understand.

If the shortening of the week saves jobs can I accept it.

I had 2 postal carriers in my family, one was my grandma who passed away, the other my aunt who still works for the PO.

If the is a choice between layoffs which means someone looses their paycheck and the ability to support their family or the 5 day mail week which will keep the employees working and still receiving a paycheck.......

I would take the shorter week....

BUT...... ONLY if it SAVES jobs!

if they get layed off they can draw unemployment as opposed to getting fired or quit and just losing a paycheck but i think you have to pay into unemployment 1st

I was talking to my post master and she said this would more than likely just effect the main offices. You would still have your local post office open to accept mail. She didnt know if they would still deliver though? I can see it being a pain for those who work 9-5 though. If it saves jobs and helps the Postal Service from losing money then why not?

I'm OK for saving jobs if it helps. The internet emails was the beginning of paperless, stampless mails and long gone are the paper orders for companies because we order most of our stuff online. However we still depend on them for chicks, eggs and items that you can not get it thru online services. Postal Service will always be there.

When I was talking to my post delivery gal, she said she hopes it is only for rural and small towns but for large towns, there is too much mail to go out on Monday so the six day a week would suffice. Lately we have not gotten much junk mails or flyers but the credit card companies are on the rise again becking me to sign up for 0% credit. No thanks!

Unemployment checks don't cover the bills........ your unemployment check is about 1/3 of your actual pay.

They also don't last more than 6 months, even with the extensions. The economy isn't ready to add more numbers to those looking for jobs

I dont think closing the PO on Saturday would make any difference. If it streamlines the system and saves money, Im all for it. I can't imagine anything being done on Saturday that couldnt be done the other 5 days of the work week.
