Mail delivery shortened to 5 days? For it or against it?

most of ours are already closed on saterdays here not a big deal. you have them offering fewer services and charging more good thing they are subidized by taxpayers and not having to compete in "the real world"

The postal service in NOT subsidized by taxpayers it is a self supporting entity. This is the misconception most people have. We are funded by the stamps, priortiy mail etc that we sell. NOT TAXPAYERS!!! This I know for a fact and it has been this way for many many years.
As far as saving money.... The subs they have now will all quit because we can't afford to wait around for an occasional sick day once or twice every few months. Who will run the routes for them then? In the long run they will find it will cost them more money. How can you honestly believe dropping a day won't hurt anyone? It sure won't save jobs! And saturdays are a huge outgoing mail day for those who work during the week they wait till saturday to post their letters. Plus...we who are subs can't claim unemployment since they don't consider us full time.

I don't like the idea of 2 days in a row with no mail delivery. If they had to close a day, I'd rather they picked another day of the week.

Believe it or not I wrote six papers for a business course on the PO. The postal service has not had a major change since Ronald Reagan was in office in 1970. Unfortunately the PO like all other government organizations has been and is mismanaged still. Money has been squandered and this is the blame of unions as well.
I recently well.......... I could type forever on the information. Just as a letter carrier I've seen alot not including all the information I learned from writing and researching.

So as for the question of 5 days?
I don't mind. I'm on direct deposit and don't know why more people aren't. I get more non important mail since I've retired. As for bill payments, the christmas logo to "mail early" applies to the entire year and we all know it. I pay online and I'm not ashamed to admit it. No recipient can say they didn't get it.

I'm sorry for the people who will "lose" not "loose" their jobs but such is life. Unless the Board is willing to admit what the real problem is there is nothing we peons can do about it.

"The nine most terrifying words in the english language, I'm from the government and I'm here to help" - Ronald Reagan.

2 is pretty interesting

Despite its off-budget status, however, the Postal Service is still caught up in budgetscoring
decisions that erode its finances and obstruct its legislative program in
Congress. This situation primarily results from three facts: (1) the Postal Service’s
revenues and expenses remain part of the unified budget, which is the measure most
commonly used for calculating budget effects, (2) the Postal Service’s contributions for
its retiree obligations are held in on-budget accounts, and (3) the Postal Service
receives a small on-budget appropriation to subsidize mail for the blind and overseas
voters.

the closing here have not affected us we just do not have the branch offices open our main offices are still open on saterdays you just get there early is all
