Mail delivery shortened to 5 days? For it or against it?

I just talked with my regular carrier who is going on vacation next week she made the comment that they are auditing our edit book and cases to make sure they match exactly.... Now if they can pay someone to come in and do something piddly like that no wonder we are in the fix we are in. If they would cut out these pointless actions like this then we might not be in this situation.
If you get your mail late of an evening(rural, not po boxes) think how late it will be if the 6th day is cut. Plus if a holiday falls on a friday or monday...whew watch out they'll be running routes till midnight trying to catch up.

I'm for them closing on Saturdays if it means the USPS becoming more financially stable.

It sounds like a business decision. Business don't spend money they don't need to and they cut back where they can to help the bottom line without affecting the service.

With the internet banking, bill pay, direct deposit, I don't think there is really a need to have carriers doing routes to deliver less mail.

When I worked in retail when business was slow they cut back hours. When they needed to fix the bottom line they cut back hours. It is just business.​

As for unions, they are a double edged sword. They do a lot of good an come with one huge bad.

I do think mechanics need a union.
A shop charged $20 an hour for work in the 60s an paid the mechanic $10 of that. Now they charge $70 an hour an the mechanic gets $12 of that.

Truck drivers need a union.
$0.10 a mile... At 60MPH thats $6 an hour. An 2 days home a month?

An anyone that has ever worked at walmart knows how bad they need a union an how hard they try to brainwash people to keep them out.

Totally against it! Their prices will still rise steadily... and it won't be as much of a cut as they think it will be.

Besides, those bill collectors and due dates won't allow extensions over 1 day a week lose of service. Again, the creditors will win, and we're losing a battle with them as is!

We have no control over what and when we deliver it. If it comes in on the truck it's suppose to go out that day regardless if it is 1st class, presort etc. So if you get your check mailed on Friday and it gets to you on Saturday you won't get it till the following week if they go to 5 days.

Our offices has 12 routes and 2 city routes and we get a slew of packages some of which are medicines. My route is @750 mailboxes, 52 mile round trip. It takes me @4 hours to case the mail, 4 hours to run the route on a Saturday and I hardly ever see a saturday that has less than 60 packages.

It would be nice if everyone had the chance to see how mail is carried out. You might then have a little more understanding and support for your mail carrier. I invite anyone to come ride my route one saturday with me and see what I go through.

I say if they want to save money instead of cutting a day cut WAGES why should they get Xamount of money and great health care I say they anyone who makes the money they and the auto makers do should not get the money they get and then great health care cut wages and put them on regular health care and wow money saved...

I knew a letter carrier that smoked 2 packs a day and could barley walk a block with out being out of breath I told him if you quit smoking that you would be able to deliver faster and be done quicker, he told me and I quote why would I want to go back to the PO and have to finish my shift standing around besides the insurance I have covers what ever I need so there is no reason for me to quit.
With mail carriers like him is why they need to redo the PO's all over this country get rid of the dead weight I know so many people that would love to have that job at half the pay.

Let me reinterate I am a substitute carrier, I don't get the benefits that regular carriers get. Wish I did though. It would be nice.

We get evaluated time for our routes. That means they come in time you and then say like mine is estimated at 8.5 hrs. That's casing, carrying, packages etc. If you get done in 6 hours then you still get the 8.5 pay. I have expenses though, just like a regular carrier I've had to provide my own car. They may give us mileage but it sure don't cover the expenses of what driving a crapper car requires. The regular carriers have it easier in that aspect. We (the subs)have all the same requirements but not the pay.
