Mail delivery shortened to 5 days? For it or against it?

It wouldn't bother me either way. I have a PMB at a mail service, so I only have to go into town to get my mail three or so times a week. If I get anything at the house anymore, it's usually junk mail or magazines, as most of my mail is deferred to the PMB anyhow.

That said- I think we should do what's best for the people who hold those jobs- but how long has it been since the g*********t has done that for the people, anyhow?

It doesn't bother me either way. I appreciate having the mail delivered right to the house at all, it sure beats having to get a box and have to drive into town all the time.

I dont see this as any different as some offices going to a 4 day/10 hour work week. Gives people 3 days off, closes the office an extra day, keeps all the expenses of keeping that office open an extra day off the books. Win win.

i'm aganist it...they cant get my mail to me in a timely manner as it is now...
what will happen if they take away another delivery day??

We basically have 5 days here anyway. The mail window is closed by 10 am on Saturdays. Sometimes I go over and get the mail that day, more often I dont.

For it. I got so tired of my mailbox being broken into due to the mail person leaving mail hanging out of all the boxes on my street I took mine down. i reported her to the post master general, pictures of the hanging mail and all, and he told me I HAD to have a mail box regardless. I hate it. Who needs the added method of credit fraud and identity theft! Im all for eliminating it entirely. Luckily she was taken off the route and the new person puts the mail safely into the mail boxes.

Both... no saturday delivery or open window at PO. Which means as I've stated before that if your mail delivery wasn't up to par in the first place imagine what it will be with only 5 day delivery.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience. As with any job there are those who remain "bad apples". I try to practice the golden rule when I carry. That means I don't welch on my job, unlike some.

PO boxes will cost people money. They aren't free. I live in the county and it would be a pain to have to have a PO box. I don't go to town unless absolutely necessary.

Be it 5 days, the mail will back up. Even if there isn't delivery the trucks still will run (to the PO) and that means a backload of mail. So if your waiting on a check you'll be waiting that much longer till the mail is caught up.

Then I'm totally against it. If I have to pick something up or drop something off, unless it's alive, I can only do this on Saturdays. I am never home, during the work week, when the post office is open except on Saturday.

My husband just got hired as a part time carrier. His day is Saturday. The office here in my county will be open on Saturdays .. just no mail runs. I got that info straight from our Postmaster.

Also, this will not go into effect until sometime next year. It has to be approved through Congress (I think?

) before it actually happens. It probably will since there is no HUGE out cry against it. The USPS is also cutting jobs in the next year or so. Like they are not refilling some positions once people retire and such. They are over budget! Huh ... I guess there are that many people out there paying their bills on-line!

I just hope it holds off until my husband has been there a year so he can bid on a full time position!
