I’ve been scrolling through the threads and can’t find exactly the answer I’m looking for. I ordered ducks and they are to be delivered this week, I’m calling the farm because there is a holiday and I want to make sure they will be ok.. also going to talk to the post office tomorrow. Anyway... my question is.. should I be looking for anything that isn’t visible to ensure they are healthy? Or am I just being a worried duck mom? 🤣

it’s done now but i would not recommend shipping ducklings in the future. it stresses them out, they risk dying, and animals should never be put in boxed and mailed across the country

They recommend checking at the post office to do a head count for any dead ones. I'd do that, and make sure no one is stuck or dogpiled on.

When you get home, make sure they all know how to eat and drink and make sure none are acting like they can't walk or hold their head right.

What did you get them for? Eggs, pets or meat?

I agree, but unfortunately I made the beginner mistake a being excited that my boyfriend finally agreed to getting ducks and bought indexed ducks and then realized what I did... and now I have too many drakes.. the farm I ordered from is in the same state as me and about 125 miles away. So not ideal but not multiple states ☹️

Thank you that is what I wanted to know. I got them as pets and layers. Like I said in my other response I was excited that my BF finally gave in after a year of me asking for ducks and bought unsexed ducks 🙄 so I have too many drakes and wanted to make sure I got the ratio correct.

I ordered ducks online as well, my two Rouens Rio and Rudi. I had the same concerns

the post office actually tries to expedite live animals being shipped and get them there as fast as possible, regardless of the postage. Shipping on mine was supposed to be 2-3 days. They came overnight and in perfect health.

like had been said though, I wouldn’t order online again though as they were very stressed when they got here

congrats on getting ducks too!
