There wouldn’t be the options and industry there is if it wasn’t feasible to ship day old poultry. Some don’t handle the travel as well as others, but as long as they’re packaged and shipped appropriately and you handle things as best you can from your end (ensuring you either have the PO call you, or call on arrival day to be able to pick them up as soon as they arrive) well, there’s nothing to say that they can’t be just fine when they arrive. No matter where or how you get babies, some of them may not make it. Here, due to the whole covid thing, most of the hatcheries aren’t shipping live birds directly to consumers, although they are still shipping via air to the co-ops in larger numbers. It seems like location has played a large part in how shipping has gone for everyone this year, unfortunately.
