Mailing eggs.....need advice.

I have never mailed hatching eggs and might start this summer when my hens start laying. Was wondering if everyone could tell me thier preferences on mailing so I know what is best for packing, do you do the flat rate boxes or not, if not where do you get your boxes and packing supplies from? Thanks in advance for your advice!

I wad each egg up in a whole sheet of newspaper and pack them firmly in a flat rate box, so they can't budge. They seem to do fine, and don't cost me any extra $. The boxes are free at the PO. just tape is all I have to buy extra and you can get that at the 99 cent store.

Go to this website https://shop.usps.com/webapp/wcs/st...10000002&top_category=10000002&WT.ac=10000036 and you can order free shipping boxes in many sizes. Then I roll each egg in bubble wrap and then put them either in the center of a bunch of shredded paper or crinkle up a bunch of newspaper and bubble wrap around all the eggs. Just make sure it's backed full of "extra" papers/ bubble wrap so there is no spaces left inside the box.

Tothemoon, I bubble wrap each egg separately, putting in a regular box (not an egg carton) which is then cushioned and set in a larger box. These are not the prepaid priority boxes but we use the large boxes that can be ordered through USPS as the standard mailing box. Our mailing costs can often be higher than the prepaid boxes but we find that they arrive in better shape, so it's well worth the extra time, packing materials and shipping costs. Occasionally with a large order, we will use an even larger outside box.

It's proven a much better way to ship, more labor intensive, but better end results.

I also find that when I buy eggs, if folks will ship this way, I get much less damage on the eggs...
