maine chickenstock!! pictures of the event!!

how is everyone planning on transporting/showing their chickens/chicks that are for sale/swap? i have a big dog crate but that seems like it would be tough to manage. I've never been to a chicken swap so I don't know how this is done!
Any suggestions?

maybe i'll check for cages on craigslist. hmmmm:confused:

thank you angie, i had other ideas also to add to your flyer, i have alot of people come to pick up birds/chicks, and they ask alot of questions, one recent one was how high should the layer box be, ??? well, where ever mr wonderful happens to screw them to the wall, if he ever gets to it.. thats not the answer ha? and feed change schedule, atleast 4-6 wks starter, 6wks to 4mo grower and 4m layer, stuff like that, anyone care to add here, i would like to get something together to add to angies so i can print them off, for here as well as the swaps,
thank you angie, if you would/could, that would be great

an easy transport crate, if you go to your local grocery store and ask if you can have there banana boxes, the have a top and bottom., take them home and use a bit of wire, screen whatever, and attatch with electrical ties to the front so people can see your birds. pics are on the milford nh chickenstock photo thread that spook did. easy and almost free if you have these things on hand, you can even use a staple gun if you wanted, not long staples of course,

oh and bring some small boxes to transfer the chicks into when someone buys them, its good to have some extra boxes that can be closed up for the buyers.

Thanks! maybe I'll put my dad to work building a couple of cages. Great tip on the grocery store crates. Can't wait!

If I am boxing one bird, I use the boxes that flats of eggs come in. I get them from the local corner store. I cut out a large square hole in the side and cut chicken wire a little bigger than the hole. Put the wire on the outside and duct tape in place. The boxes already have holes cut for carrying handles on two sides so there is good ventilation.

Cat or Dog crates also work well. I also found some wire portable bunny cages at our transfer station (aka dump).

I could make up another flyer, too. That one I made was just for getting people turned onto the idea of chickens.

If you need an example, go to photos from Chickenstock, Milford, NH. I have posted a few pics and believe I have I caught those on film - how cool the idea was! Super invention!

Is anyone bringing a bantam chick or two, or even a young bantam pullet? We had to put down my daughter's bantam this afternoon and she is sobbing her eyes out. It is breaking my heart. And our sweet little bantam's hatchmate is wandering around the yard screaming for her BFF.
