Maine Coon Cats? Cat advise as well please :)

Being protective or "helping you" or being there to greet visitors is all good behavior-he seems to be more attached each day.

These cats usually are long, lean in the body with a belly that hangs down (like a wild cat).
Indy is a young healthy boy, that will continue to grow and fill out for 2-3 years. George, (our cat) will be
2 in January, and is beginning to fill out. Now that autumn is here, his mane is coming in little faster.

You have reminded me that I need to engage our cat in more play-I get so busy with chickens that I forget some times.
Playtime is keep boredom and destructive behavior at bay...so thank you for that.

do you think my kitty is part Maine coon? that's what we guessed when we bought him as a kitten but now I'm not so sure

CC's CoopCuties :

He certainly looks like he could be!

cool! he's a pretty big boy but not nearly as big as most of the other cats in this thread but he does take on the neighbors giant cat quite a bit.

My favorite cat EVER was certainly at least part Maine Coon. My dad brought him home as a tiny kitten from some fishing hole way out in the boonies back in PA where he watched the mom cat catch fish to feed her kittens. He said she was a big cat, too. Our Charlie was enormous! He weighed 22lbs and was all lean muscle, not an ounce of fat on him. He used to catch full grown rabbits and drag them home like a lion with a gazelle. He looked exactly like any pics I've seen of a purebred Maine Coon. I love how he chirruped at us instead of meowing. He was the sweetest, gentlest cat I have ever had. Great mouser, and got along great with our dog. We had 2 dogs at the time, a pit bull mix and a chihuahua/terrier cross. He and the terrier used to work together to catch mice. And once Charlie got chased home by a large dog, the chihuahua ran outside and attacked the big dog, and then Charlie jumped on the big dog's back. Never saw that dog again. lol. He died of feline leukemia right around the time the vaccine was first released.

Maine Coons are my favorite forever...I am hopelessly in-love with this breed. They are personality-personified, with a great history as a true American Breed- I guess they can be classified as "heritage."

We have progressed to my being able to touch and brush him all over...routine is so key! Get up in the morning, have a good morning scratch, brush, play. At night: food, brush, play, some training! This is working well, and no mouthiness for twelve days! Yippee!
