Maine Swaps 2011

Not only bring food, water, shavings for the comfort of your own animals, but remember that 8 week old birds and under MUST BE SOLD 6 AT A TIME.

We did have a issue with this, I should not have let it slip but here I will publicly say, if STATE LAWS are not complied with, you will be asked to leave by the Manager of the Tractor Supply Stores.

It was a super day, so glad that we had the turn out that we did and I hope to see everyone at next weekends TSC in Oxford. If not, we would love to hear how your day went! Awesome and Thanks Chickn, so glad you went to support Sandford!
Thanks,
Kel

I stopped by Brunswick to pick up pine shavings and they had a donkey, some goats and that's about it. Malbri-you asked where the 4H was from and I asked them. They were from Litchfield. Didn't catch the name of the group. Definitely disappointing. I really expected more but I don't think they advertised at all.

If it was Brunswick's first event, then its kinda normal. We put out big signs for a couple weeks in front of the TSC store, I think that gets to a lot of people because they question what it is, call the store to find out details. We call ours "Chickenstock" like the first BYC events and then we say "Its not just for chickens". I am sorry to hear of Brunswick not doing well, but it will only get bigger!
Sanford's photo's looked pretty awesome, great job Bob!

Thanks for the compliment on Sanford spook. That start was agonizing especially with the threat of rain looming over us for the previous days. It turned out well and I'm looking forward to June 11th.

Saw on craigslist that someone was trying to entice the TSC in Scarborough to hold a swap. His post was looking for sellers to come to the event and if he finds enough he'll confront TSC.

I tried that a year ago and they had no interest then. Who know's maybe with Sanford being a success they'll reconsider.

question- is it birds 8 weeks and under sold in 6? or is it 6 weeks or 4 weeks old, i cant remember but i thought 8 weeks is a bit old

It is eight weeks. Probably the person who came up with that time just went by the same law that covers other animals such as puppies, kittens, rabbits and most likely anything else.

I agree with the puppy and kitten rule but not so much with the others. It would be better for our lawmakers to actually know something about the laws they are asked to pass. But it is what it is. And it is better to just go along with what the laws state and if change is needed then to go about getting changes via the proper channels. Ignoring the laws will just get everyone else into hot water and that will just help create more restrictions that none of us would like.

As for the Scarborough TSC swap I responded to the Craigslist ad to let the person know there is interest. Told her to come here if she wasn't already a forum member. I shop at Scarborough quite often and I have started to see more and more events there. So hopefully they will want a Chickenstock.
