Maine

Thought I would pass this along. I just got an email from Blue Seal in Windham. They will have 9-10 week old pullets for $16 ea. available for a short time starting the 16th of this month. From what I could read on the flyer it looks like red sex links and white leghorns. There is another breed too but I couldnt quite make out what it was. You have to order in advance.

Oh, I found another egg! A small light brown egg. Not in the nest box but under an out building. Now, I need to build some type of fenced in enclosure for the winter. I heard foxes yesterday. Ugh! OK, I should get working and stop procrastinating....

I think the 3rd one is Araucanas.

After spending all morning stoking the fire in the garage I finally got it up to 50° so I could paint my nest boxes. I've got two individual boxes and one communal/broody box right now. Eventually I will do two more individual boxes to go on the other side of the communal box so they will span the whole wall. The individual boxes are 16"x16"x16" and 1' off the floor. The broody/communal box is 2'4" tall, 2' wide and 18" deep and it sits at floor level so chickies can safely get in and out. Now we just need to get the shed here so I can get everything set up. I wish it was warm enough that I could paint the whole thing. I'm more excited about that than I am about Christmas!

I'm so glad this is working out for you!!!

well... don't be. I did find where my now dead hen laid her last three eggs but no new ones. I am either very out of practice or they aren't laying yet. You darn chickens... hurry up already. There is something depressing about having to buy eggs when you already have birds.
