Maine

I am contemplating not feeding the hens inside the coop for the winter. On sunny days, they come out before I am up at 530, but on overcast days, they stay in until I make it out and either shoo them out or lure them out with extra grain mix.

Does anyone know of someone who is looking for Silver Foxes (meat rabbits)? I have a breeding trio I need to let go of, in order to expand my cages to fill them with chocolate Silver Foxes, instead of blacks.

Does anybody have an interest, or know of anybody interested in a Buff Brahma Rooster? We just don't want a rooster right now. He is very respectful of us, and quite docile. He was acquired from Meyer's and was a sexing error of theirs. He is 22 wks today. Please pm if interested.

Oh bunnies! I was thinking of getting some angora rabbits. Do you have any or know of people who raise them?

Not yet, I was thinking about getting some in the spring, when I have some time to get everything set-up. Currently we have way too many projects going on. Do you know what type of angora's they have? I was really interested in the giants but any would do. Thanks!

I have no idea what kind they are. I don't think they are giants though. I suppose they could be. Fluffy things they are! I'll ask next time we run into each other.

Oh no! Bad news here at Gravel Pitt Lodge, we have an egg eater! Just started to get some eggs and now someone is enjoying them! I mixed some scratch with oyster shell today. Hope that stops this bad behavior. How do some of you give oyster shell?

Bad news here, too! I just found an egg today with a clear peck mark. It didn't break through, but there are hairline cracks emanating from the peck. I need to get some oyster shell. I'm dreading going out in this weather... may have to wait until tomorrow.

We found a dead hen today. She wasn't frozen solid, so I think she was killed this morning. She was found out back, behind the chicken coop. I've not had any hens that didn't roost at night, so I am pretty sure she was taken this morning. Her back end and entire insides had been eaten. I once saw a chart showing how particular critters killed, so I'm going to look for it. Hubby ALMOST thinks our dog did it, but I am not really believing that one yet. Any suggestions?
