Ugh! I have no advice, having never used an incubator... I hope they are ok, though!
 
What day are you on? In my home made incubator (the box is about 15" x 15" and about 10" high) I keep it at 20 - 30% with a piece of sponge (about 1" x 3") in a little cup, add about 1.5 oz water every couple of days. Did you put the water in a channel in the bottom? is there any way you could wick the water out, or could you take the eggs out for a few minutes, dump the water out and start over? It won't hurt the eggs to be out for 10 minutes or so. Mama broody leaves the nest every day to tend to business.

I have wicked away most. Just waiting to recheck. But could take them out clean it and start over. Never thought of that. Thx!!! They are on day #8
 
MT - I painted my house last summer. I have a gambrel and a 16x20 addition. A lot of trim and repaired the broken clapboards as I went along and a couple spots that needed actual replacement like 2 window ledges. It took me a month because I still work full time and only have a couple days a week to devote to it. I am 56 years old and this gave me a real sense of accomplishment.I had gotten a quote of 2500 which I see is cheap compared to your 4000 but I was too cheap to pay it!!! It looks really good . Now I want to tackle painting the inside before the snow goes away because after that I won't be back inside til late fall!

I hate when a chick is almost all the way zipped and then DIES! Ugh.

Lots of Spring cleaning here. Glad I started some seeds. How was the Augusta Swap?
 
Hi all, I am new on here and when it comes to all things chicken so excuse me if I am asking questions that have already been answered on this thread. I am hoping to get some chickens, our zoning only allows for up to 6 and I am unsure of what breed/breeds I should get. I am leaning a little towards Barred rock, Australorps, Orpingtons and Wyandottes at the moment and was wondering if any fellow Mainers could make suggestions when it comes to whats best for the climate here in Maine. Also any suggestions as to where I might find the chickens once I have decided what to go for, i'd quite like a mix of a couple of breeds so also knowing what breeds get a long would be good to know. I would like a breed that is sociable as I have two young children who will to be involved in their care.
