Happy Thanksgiving everyone!! Good luck digging out as well. Not sure how much snow we have here in Gray, I'll measure it when I go out to shovel. Sure looks pretty but my chickens do not like this "poisonous white stuff".

Yes, Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! We had 5" here in Kennebunkport, a paltry amount compared to others. I was able to scrape the snow down to the tar on the paved part of the driveway. My pullet with the biggest food motivation was the only one I could coax out onto the snow, and she went right back in as soon as she had cleaned out the scratch from my hand. The others were not interested in coming out in the snow for any reason.

This is my favorite holiday of the year. It is a 4F holiday, food, family, fun and football.

We probably got a foot here but I'd argue with anyone calling it snow. It was like shoveling cement.

My turkeys came out immediately, they didn't care that it wasn't shoveled. The rest of the flock came out after I had it shoveled and I set out some leftover pad thai.

Today, I installed the dividers in the nest box, and got the bottom two dish pans installed, and all 4 dish pans are now screwed in place so they don't tip when the girls perch on the edge of them.
Got 5 eggs, plus a frozen rubber egg today. The count is inching up with the extra light. Girls got out for some fresh air today. Several of them went on a hike down the path. They wound up on the front steps. I found them hanging out, enjoying the sunshine. When I worked on the nest box, it took 3 times longer because of all the help I had: They were jumping in and out of the nest boxes, inspecting the drill, screws, and drill bits, picking at my hair, trying to jump in the closet. I finally had to lock half of them outside so I could get the job done.

11 inches of white cement here. If I'd known about the Pad Thai, I might have come out too!

Dang snow ripped down All the bird netting covering the playyard. Girls aren't interested in going out there since the evil white stuff showed up. 2 of the younger girls did come out to brave the snow. Everyone else decided to take dirt baths. Got some good pictures on my phone but its charging right now. 2 tree limbs came down. 1missed the coop but the other one landed on the roof. No damage though.

Us, too. I lost the fishing line I strung up and the tarp over the ducks ripped the grommets out and then shrink wrapped itself over the duck house. That was fun to shovel out.

Any time you want a Pad Thai date, SCG, let me know! I love that place.

I guess I am trying a new experiment with the TSC fiberglass fence posts and deer fencing. The snow came before I finished pulling it up (which is a painstaking process because it becomes one with the sod). I got 6 more posts removed on Wednesday before the snow got going, but maybe half of all the fenced in areas are still in place.

The deer fence stretches fairly well, but we'll see how much of it is ripped come spring. And the fence posts are bent with the weight of the snow. Maybe they will spring back? I tried rotational grazing, which required way more fencing. Next year I might try two pods per flock (instead of 3 or 4), because it is way too much fencing for me to properly care for. It was nice having the bachelor pad separated by several fences though. Not one cockerel made it over the fences to the hens (although I found them wandering the yard frequently).

It was 1 degree last night. I hate to see my new rooster's comb. And I imagine the hoop house greens may be toast.....
