The game cam caught 11 rats in one picture...all sizes. The traps caught 7 in 3 nights. I only baited traps the last 2 nights to lull them into a false sense of security. I've set 11 traps tonight. Hoping for a big haul tonight! Fingers crossed

Coopchick, you are scaring me! I stopped thinking about rats. I haven't even purchased the hardware cloth that I promised to line the floor with. I bought one of those traps in the winter, but never caught anything (although new tunnels were appearing). Perhaps I will set up the game cam this weekend...

Wheeks, I had good luck with my Meyer Hatchery birds. I did lose a few as young chicks, especially the dark Cornish. Some of the adults I eventually sold or gave away. The remainder are 5 years old and still looking good.

I was just wondering if anyone on here was feeding fermented feed? Wanted to know how it was working out for you. I started doing it a couple weeks ago and so far the chickens are liking it. Do you notice any difference in your chickens? Are you saving on feed?
I use FF, and have had wonderful results with it. When comparing my flock to the flocks of my friends who got chicks from the same place, at the same time as me, and a lot of them got chicks that I hatched... my girls consistently lay sooner and more often than those of my friends. On average, I'd say... about 2 weeks sooner, maybe even more. Definite cost savings, as they are not able to bill any out onto the ground. They "lick the bowl clean" before they get more. A bag of feed lasts much longer. I also compare feed consumption with my friends, and it scares me how much feed they go through. This is also a great way to deter rodents. If they don't have access to food, they'll go shopping elsewhere.

BAHAHAA!!! Dear Rattilocks, do you display the skulls & cross bones as a warning to the others??!! "Arghh any rat who dared tread these runs, death be upon you!"

I'll tell you, bucka... I was a little scared myself counting 11 rats in the picture!! Told my DH we're gunna need a bigger trap! ONE! 1 stinkin little rat in a mouse trap! ONE!

Nah we try not to display our skulls in public. We are already thought of as "those weird neighbors..."

A couple years ago our neighbors decided to throw a street garage sale (but didn't invite us to participate). I took the liberty of processing roosters in the driveway that day. I swear I had planned to do it that day anyway, but it didn't exactly go over well. They haven't had a garage sale since.

I can't for the life of me imagine why they would have had an issue with that. You'd think they'd have been thrilled to get rid of all the crowing! Perhaps they were offended that you didn't invite them to the barbecue the next weekend.

This year's a light year. We have two giant toms that "talk back" (gobble) constantly and only 13 crowing roosters.

There are, however, more roosters in the basement growing out, ready to replace the first batch of roosters that will be going soon and likely more toms to add to the gobbly mix.

Now's probably a good time to mention I also have two screaming goats.

Who wouldn't want to be my neighbor?
