We went back to hose-free and electric water last weekend. It is a pain, but so was the ice in the nipple waterers. I'm thinking about buying some 2 gallon plastic watering cans to haul water with. We don't buy many things in gallon plastic jugs (at least that we empty very quickly). I had been using the jug that came with my first colonoscopy prep

. It was my favorite jug, -just over a gallon with an easy to grab handle, but after 5 years of use, it has sprung a leak, and so has the empty bleach bottle.
Right now, I'm using a flat-topped 2 gallon bucket with a lid, but I tend to get dirt on the lid all the time, and it all goes into their water when I pour.

For the bees (to mix and carry sugar water) I bought cat litter in large plastic jugs with a handle and screw closure. It came in a 2 pack - want the other if I can find it?

I use a 5 gallon bucket and multiple trips.

i have 2- 5 g buckets that i load into my little red wagon (with lids), and once snow is here they will be hauled in a sled

i hate the cold, my daughter keeps teasing me that snow is coming

Well our girl still has not passed the egg thinking might be 2 there, we got some extra calcium in her and another warm soak, she is trying to push but we are at a loss of what else to do....

is she pooping??
i was just reading some posts by kathy that were saying that it may not be a problem and to give it time so long as she was still pooping it wasnt harming them, also make sure she is still eating/drinking
dehydration seems to be one of the leading causes of egg binding

if she isnt pooping:
lube her up, massage and epsom soaks as much as possible
you may have to help more manually, just be careful not to break the egg

can you isolate her, maybe bring her inside and keep her warm? ideal temp for birds that dont feel well is ~80*
i have also read that doing a steam bath helps, bring her in the bathroom and let the steam get to her, but keep it dim

trying not to stress her out is key too
good luck

i hope she passes it for you

She is inside and in isolation, the steam thing would not work in our house for we keep wader temp down do to children...

We've terminated two more unwanted cockerels today, and will now age the meat a bit before trying to render it edible. It was as good a day as I could ask for to make it happen, and we worked fast since getting chilled is a motivator. I stacked the last of the wood this morning and made sure the windows were locked up properly against the cold to come. And I think it won't be much longer before the snow flies down here as well. I hope everyone is ready!

I didn't know cat litter came in that type of container, although we are cat-free now, so I'm never looking. If you happen to find the other container, I'd love to try it out. How much do you think it holds? DH emptied a 1.4 gallon jug of bleach yesterday. It is flimsy, but hopefully will last the winter.
