Maine

By the way, using real math, not chicken math, that is $40 per person (which equals 6.25 chicks each) if FOUR people want to go in on it. I guess one person would have to take the extra chick (unless we want to share custody

). Just kidding.

Perhaps sharing an order could help you both out. It seems like quite a large number of chicks at one time.

Hey, Yankee ingenuity! What ever works.

I have a friend that is looking for silkie eggs to hatch, nothing special, I doubt color matters and if it does... ah well. I believe cheap and close to the Waterford area, or I'll be up in Farmington on the 10th of April for the poultry club meeting (and is open for all to join in)

Woohoo, Got my 2 windows put in the coop today. Also got a nice exterior door from a 1960's cottage. The best is the door was free!!!! Awesome. Just have to get the nesting boxes built and cut out the chicken door. Suggestions on the chicken door size? I was thinking maybe 13"W x 15"H. Then slide sideways to open or slide up and down? Ideas and suggestions are helpful.

I can't add any more birds this year. Right now, I have 20 eggs in the incubator. Not sure how many will hatch, as this is the first time I am trying this. I am crossing my EE roo with the 3 Welsummers (along with a few other random breeds) to try and get some olive-eggers.

I do like the idea of going in on an order with other people, I just can't do that for a while.

My Welsummers are from Meyer Hatchery, and they lay nice dark brown speckled eggs. You can order just a few birds from them, but the shipping is high. The shipping drops considerably at 10 or 15 birds, so that might be another option to explore.

I originally ordered just a couple more Welsummers from Long Horn's, but they had sold out, but that may be another future option.

Spook,
This is for your friend looking for Silkies. I ordered a half dozen eggs online and not one hatched.

So I went to Long Horn Supply in Buxton and ordered 10 Silkie chicks. I believe they are still taking orders, but minimum order is 5 chicks.

I found Welsummers! The previous post here (from Jake1297) had info about Silkies at Long Horn Supply in Buxton. I had never heard of Long Horn (they are not local to me) so looked them up online and sure enough, on their order form they had Welsummers. I am doing a chicken dance!

So thank you to Jake1297 for the info.

I do know that the Welsummers weren't available back in March. Cackle was having issues with hatching them at that time. But they were expecting them to be available by May. I'm just waiting for my Bourbon Red turkey poults to come in. Hopefully they will be in the April 22 shipment.
The 15 silkies I picked up from Longhorn back in March are doing great. Active and already getting into trouble. I also had three White Leghorns but lost one. The little one got out of the brooder and my Potcake decided she needed a snack

Arghhhh...Chicken Snacks?
Thanks for the info and glad to hear you have had a positive experience with Lonhorn

It's looking like the Welsummers will be in the first June shipment-which is ok with me...as long as they are on their way. I hope your turkeys are here soon

How did you happen to come by a Potcake? They are so adorable. Is their temperment good? Do they tend to roam?

Jake thank you. Now I've heard positive things about their feed deliveries. I should get feed by the ton in the summer with the quantity of birds that are here, but I have no real safe place to put it without mice etc.
Also, appreciate your mention of silkies, but the woman definitely wanted eggs. I just thought maybe someone would have some cackle berries.

Anyone need a handsome Standard splash Cochin Rooster? Or a small 8 week old gray & brown cockerel? Oh yes, a young Scooter is up for re-homing too. Just tossing it out there. I am not so sure why I get so many roosters, its irritating!!

You all have a great week!
