anyone dealing with mites in there coops i am. i cleaned and washed out the coop treated the birds with prozap poultry dust, and also used poultry protector spray from manna on the coop and birds. lastnight i found that my old wooden nestbox was covered in redmites and 6 of my white leghorns were roosting on it. i threw out the nest box. as that seemed to be were the mites were the most. found a few on the underside of the roosts treated that. anyone know of a good nontoxic spray to use in the coop. out of all 25 birds only one of my leghorns looks largic from the mites.
do you remember what the name of the spray was you used for your coop.I treated my birds with Ivermectin pour-on. It is not approved for poultry, but it works. Just 4 or 5 drops on a bare patch of skin, and re-dose in 10 days. There is a suggested withdrawal period of not eating eggs for 10 days after treatment.
For the coop, I got a permethrin spray. Many people use Sevin dust, but I try to avoid it.
Good luck with them!
Oh I am not integrating them. I got them for breeding purposes - hatching eggs and chicks. Someone who came to purchase a couple other pullets from me asked about doing so.OMG, they are so comical looking, almost unreal like they have a costume! Have fun with them, and good luck integrating them. Sorry don't have tips for you, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, but we'll keep our feathers crossed that you have a positive outcome!
They are very entertaining - my kids love watching them. Even the 15 month old will sit still for a while watching them.Oh I am not integrating them. I got them for breeding purposes - hatching eggs and chicks. Someone who came to purchase a couple other pullets from me asked about doing so.
