I like the name! I have an on going thought of what to name my "farm"....I can never think of a good name though. I suppose it's ok, because all I have now are chickens and a garden...but if I get my goats, I will surely need a name!

I am supposed to be getting some Brahbanters this spring. There is a woman I know who has had some for a few years. She is sharing. I am not sure I want them but they are unusual so we will try a couple. I like Spitzhaubens and capped breeds but I am rather done with the special needs.
I want to put red and green wreaths on the turkeys and take their photo in front of the red barn. They would be real Christmas Turkeys then!
We put ours up this weekend too. It's all decorated and pretty now. I need to finish putting christmas lights all over the rest of the house now...I like the lights
I'd like to see this turkey photo too- maybe I'll come down and you can stage this then?
On another note- I made mini meringues today- flavored with lemon zest, and they were yummy...and only about 5 calories per cookies...which, as my sister put it, means "you can eat them all"
We are down to the last 3 days of our second ever incubator hatch. We got a singleton silkie from the last try. He or she is very spoiled and has become a pet to my 3 year old. Here is hoping to a better hatch!

Does anyone know about the poultry farm in Lubec? http://maine.craigslist.org/grd/3451681593.html Thinking of getting on the wait list for turkey eggs from there instead of buying poults from Cackle? Also, how are their colored egg birds? Nice dark eggs on the Marans? I'd love to add some more color to my egg cartons.

I have a Barnevelder, Ancona, Golden Cuckoo Marans, and 3 "Ameraucanas" from there. The true Ameraucanas were EE's (at least 2 were, not sure about our black hen). I like all the birds. The golden cuckoo lays a nice dark egg, although she spent such a long time being broody that I can barely remember her egg color! And the Barnevelder and Ancona have been great layers.
I haven't made meringues in a long time, but one year I made those mushroom shaped meringues. You pipe out caps and stems, attach them with melted chocolate, and dust them with cocoa, and they look very realistic, but they are a lot of work. I sent my sister in Alaska a tin of homemade Christmas cookies. I wrapped the mushroom meringues in plastic wrap and tucked them in the top. I thought if I left the meringues unwrapped, they might pick up moisture from the other cookies. Later, I asked her how she liked the cookies. Oh, they were great, she said, but didn't mention the mushroom meringues. So I asked what she thought of them. What???!! I thought it was strange that there were wrapped mushrooms in the top. I asked my friend who was with me, "why do you think she put these mushrooms in here?". And she said, "oh, probably to keep them fresh or something", and then my beautiful meringue mushrooms went directly into the trash can!
It has made for a good story over the years.

DH is not a big fan of Christmas, and he has bad allergies so we don't get a tree, but we have a set of 6 + foot tall windows on both the ground floor and second story, facing south. There is a floor between the first and second story (as opposed to 16 feet of vertical space). Anyway, DH's idea is to cut down a 16 foot tall tree, chop it in half, and put the lower half on the first floor, directly below the top half (on the second floor), so people see a 16 foot tall Christmas tree in the south facing window. Then everyday, he wants to move them just a little bit in opposite directions, just to freak people out.
We have a rather strange household here......

I really want a multiple colored egg basket this coming year from the laying flock. So I am going to be adding several breeds - French Copper Marans, White Leghorns (have a few but need more), EE's and I have not decided which for a blue egg - any suggestions - was thinking Cream Legbars. This flock is just for us and we do sell some eggs but mostly give to friends and family. I never have enough surplus after that to really be serious to sell.
I am thinking 6-8 of each breed - so if you raise these and will have chicks or pullets let me know. I would rather support local than order from a hatchery.

Now that is my kind of humor.
No tree here. Have a great spot for one but it would end up as a cat tower and/or a dog toy. Especially the ornaments since I have so many that move.
