Oh! I knew she was certified, but not an inspector. Will do, since she's probably the person I'll need to schedule an appointment with for testing! Thanks!

Maybe you can bring the logs that you plan to cut down to a local saw mill, If they are soft wood of course. That is what we do over here. The coop, pig house and wood shed are all rough saw Hemlock from a local saw mill. Even if you don't use your own logs for building coops and barns the saw mill wood is better for these kinds of projects. The fence is all hemlock also with three hot wires. No goats yet but it works good for the pigs. Pigs are also social creatures and they do better in pairs.

I love pigs but they are totally not for SO. And I can't process them alone so.... share later? :)
Sheep mow lawns. Goats will mow trees and bushes.
Grazing versus browsers. Get geese to mow your lawn. Pretty, some are quiet, some are loud, and surprisingly good at it.

Has the snow changed your plans?

Not really, the current tenants will be out by the end of this weekend, but my husband works all weekend so I will probably stick around the place we're moving out of with my sister and her boyfriend, we will try to get most of the house packed up and ready to go. The boyfriend, Z, lives right down the road from the new place so he will swing by on his way to & from work daily to make sure the propane furnace is still on and the pipes are all good until we can get someone up there full time. At the end of next week, my father in law is going out of town and lending me his huge pickup truck, and my husband has that weekend off (and two more days later in the week, making up for a 10-day stretch afterwards...aah, restaurants...) so we will try to get the compost piles moved and some of the heaviest/least necessary things on his days off, and I will chip away at the piles of boxes we'll make this weekend while he's at work. Hopefully, we'll be all out and done by March 5 or so....I can't be TOTALLY out of this place until at least the 21st, since that's hatch day and I do **NOT** want to move my inky that close to hatch, especially not to somewhere where I'm not sure if it and the egg turner will draw enough power to keep the inverter running all the time - apparently, the current owners had to turn on a lamp and the radio at the same time, to draw enough power to tick the inverter on. So I will want to run the inky for a few days empty at the new place to see what it does....do not want to risk my 30 developing Salmon Faverolle eggs!

You're not too far from where we'll be, are you?

The emergency backup egg hatched! A Salmon Faverolle TA DA!

Aww! Faverolles babies are the cutest. Have two in the brooder now and another 30 eggs developing nicely and due in just under 2 weeks...

Well I'm done with the storm prep. Goats have fresh shavings in their shelter. Chickens have fresh shavings and hay in theirs. Horses have a new round bale. I did manage to crack a fence post when I backed the truck into it but it will be okay. Snow blower is in position and covered. Everyone has plenty of food. Now comes the waiting game. I work tomorrow morning at the airport. Told them I could stay until 1:30 but no later. That should give me enough time to get home and settled before the storm really hits. Then it will be going outside every couple hours to knock snow off the roof of the horses' shelter. Then try to clear the driveway before I have to leave for work Saturday afternoon.

One thing about the airport they have already reserved a couple rooms at a local hotel for anyone who is working tomorrow night so people don't have to drive home. Plus we are having a pot luck so there will be plenty of food for everyone who is working. So far only one flight has cancelled for the am but I am sure more will follow. As deicers we can only clean snow off so fast. With the wind expected and the heavy snow there will be no way for us to keep up. That is if the planes even come in tomorrow.
