Quote: I grew some All Blues from the grocery store last year, and was REALLY surprised at how well they did. Planted 3#, harvested over 25#, they've kept since July just in a paper bag on the bottom shelf of the pantry, and the ones I grew keep their purple color after they're cooked - they make the most beautiful home fries, especially if you mix them with red-skinned-whites and Russian Bananas.

I don't heat their water, I just have a set of buckets that I rotate out on the coldest days. Just the little 8qt buckets from the feed store, I take one full of warm tap water out to the coop in the morning, and others throughout the day depending on how cold it is. If it's later in the day and they're about to coop up for the night, I'll just run out with the kettle from the back of the woodstove and top off the bucket with boiling water to melt the ice and warm it up.

My girls have gotten so used to their "hot tea" every morning that now if I'm not up by a certain time, they will all stand on the porch under the bedroom window and complain quietly until I come out with their buckets!

I love Jenny! I almost named my two goats Jenny and Victor.

She just kills me with her observations!

This is a riot! Very entertaining.

And speaking of entertainment, I think my eggs will be here today! Usually, I can't get tracking info to work properly, but my eggs left Texas on Tuesday, and they already were processed through Scarborough this morning! I am excited. Hope it's not a soggy box.....
Glad you liked it. I have a warped sense of humor so.... Hooray for eggs!!

I hope they arrived in good condition.

I've never seen blue potatoes. I'll have to check these out. I bet they're really pretty.

Here we go!

Well, I fired up the bator too, but there aren't any eggs here yet. The tracking says:
Processed through sort facility 1:44 a.m. Scarborough
Depart sort facility. (no time listed). Scarborough
Processed through sort facility 4:48 p.m. Scarborough
My eggs seem to be spending quite a bit of time in Scarborough. I got my hopes up when I saw that it had departed the sort facility, but they must have just moved it into the next room. It should be here tomorrow, I would think.

So sorry to hear they're not in yet. Mine went to Scarborough then to Hamden (somewhere by Bangor) and in the process drove RIGHT BY MY HOUSE. Then back from Hamden to Vassalboro for delivery.

My two hatches are done. Lots and lots of awesomely cute chicks.

Congrats on the chicks!

I hope my eggs do not need to go to Hamden first! I had the shipper write "please call for pickup" on the box. Since no one was home today taking calls, I stopped by the post office on my way home to make sure the package was not sitting there. When I explained my situation to the clerk, she said, "oh, no, we will never call. You will get a slip like this one in your mailbox saying you have a package. If anyone calls you saying you have a package, don't believe them".

The post office works in mysterious ways.

Odd. My post office will call if there is a package that says please call on it. No wonder the post office is bankrupt. They need more lessons in customer service and less cutting back on services if they want to survive.

I had one package in my mailbox that said please call. It was about 15 degrees. I called the post office from work because I hadn't heard from them. They said: "Yes, we left one in your mailbox and there's two here for you to pick up. We forgot to call"

Sense... it makes none.

Yeah that happened to us. Eggs at the post office , they called and we went to get them. " Do you have a package for us?" ,we said. The reply was"NO WE DON'T CALL PEOPLE!" ( with a little attitude).........Well .... you called us, hatching eggs?????. " OH YEAH....... over here on the table,Well we do call for eggs.

So don't worry they will call you in the morning and let you know. They are very busy in the morning so I believe they can be a little inpatient.
